Dee Snider statement!

You know what? It's not so much that I think people should give it up and call it a day. I think people should stop being unrealistic with their expectations. And my peers kill me with this whole, you know, well, I got to give it to ya. Sorry Bruce! Sorry Dick (meaning Dickenson)! 'Iron Maiden for the 2000's.' You know, and they have this whole, like, you know, we're moving, we're continuing on where we left off, bigger and better. It ain't ****ing happening! It's all an oldies show, and everybody should just accept it. And there's nothing wrong with an oldies show - that's what I'll be doing next year. Enjoy it for what it is! People coming to see it, maybe for the first time, maybe one last time. But nobody's picking up and putting on the denim and leather and the patches and startin' buyin' the records and following the band around. And I'm not just talking about Iron Maiden, I'm talking about all of those ****ing bands. All of my peers. They all think - and you know what, KISS almost dodged the bullet when they first came together and they reunited, they seemed to have a clear picture. "We're giving you KISS, 1974, Destroyer tour, the music, the look. We're bringing you back to that time." And then when the stadiums started to be packed in, all of a sudden Gene's going (Dee impersonates Gene), "We're KISS, we're back, boom." And you got Psycho Circus, new costumes, new staging, and it didn't sell for shit! Because people are not going to start, guys in their thirties are not following the band again. Going for one last ****ing hurrah. So, truth is, all of 'em! Everybody should pack it up. Do your ****ing reunion tour. I'm doing it! That's cool! Who better to make money off your ****ing legacy than you? We all deserve it, you know. But do it, and wave goodbye, and you know, and walk off stage. Don't ****ing hang around like a fart in a paper bag!"

I really think Iron Maiden aren't the best example just because they are stil an oldies show but they don't pretend they are better. they don't even brin singles out and promoting is almost 0!

I don't think we can add Bon Jovi to this statement (otherwise Mr. Snider) would have.

Bon Jovi never left. KISS did. People aren't going to these shows for just nastoligic sake; they are going because they enjoy the new tunes. I'd be perfectly content to go to a show and only hear CRUSH or BOUNCE music as any true, loyal fan would.

Now, no question, Bon Jovi is still a punch line in many circles, but those same people who make jokes are right there when "You Give Love A Bad Name" is only the radio and they would certainly accept tickets to the show.

Bon Jovi is no longer an 80's band. They've changed with the times and so has their music. KISS admitted to being a novelty; Bon Jovi didn't and won't.

First of all, KISS never left. Two band members left, but the others kept going. Whether you liked this or not does not change the fact that they never left. They are also not a novelty. They transcended the times, influenced dozens of bands that are out there now and left an indeliable mark on people. However they are NOW a nostalgia act, nothing more. This is their own fault. Yes, they did do Psycho Circus (which I actually like.) But that was the only new material forthcoming from them since the whole reunion thing started. Everything else was nostalgia. To move forward, even with the original members and in the make up, they would have needed to keep making new music and also new stage shows.

2nd of all Bon Jovi does not belong in the category described above. There is no time limit on how long a band has. They have slowed in some depts, notably the set lists, but at least they do continue to promote their new albums by playing quite a bit of material from it. They have a ways to go yet though.

Twisted Sister was a novelty. They didn't influence dozens of bands. Most people only remember "We're Not Gonna Take It." and their range was quite limited. It's like it was said...Dee is gonna have a chip on his shoulder.

Dee is right though, there are alot of people who just want bands who have been around for a while to cater to their nostalgic needs. They want to relive a time in their life. These are the people who only jump and clap and sing when Bon Jovi plays Living on a Prayer and Bad Name. These are the same people who leave to get beer when they play Dry County or sit down when they play Keep the Faith. These people should never set the standard for a band to follow. They may provided large audiences/ticket sales, but they are temporary.

what he misses though is that bon jovi are far from nostalgic (god at times i wish they were - would love to see the 80s band reenacted live again), and iron maiden also released a superb album in 2000 i think, brave new world and an amazing tour playing a lot of the new material live

No, you can't put Bon Jovi into that category and I disagree with what Dee's had to say on that one. I mean, if they were in that category you'd have to put a hell of a lot of other hard rocks groups from the 70's and 80's in there and what'd we do then?

I'm not sure. i really think Dee means exactly bands like Bon Jovi or Def Leppard. They try to bring out new albums but it's still an oldies show(more or less in my opinion,more or less in his opinion.)

ANd TWISTED SISTER is one of the greatest ****in' bands that ever played on this planet and Dee is definetly one of the best frontmen ever!

As for oldies, anything from the 80's or older is an oldies band. Who goes to a Bon Jovi concert to hear Bounce songs or songs off Crush? But it's okay. As long as you don't expect them to get bigger and better all the time it's fine. I think Bon Jovi have kinda lost it, both live and writing songs and one of the main reasons for both is the exessive (sp?) use of technology. They don't need samples and loops, that's just a sad attempt to "change", to be something they're not.

And you're the one who gets to decide who's the "true, loyal fan". **** it. I wouldn't be happy with a show full of Crush and Bounce - songs. And I've sure as hell been a "true, loyal fan" longer than you.

Face it chump, Bon Jovi are and have always been an 80's band. That's what happens when you start a band in the 80's, it's an 80's band. KISS was formed in 1972, so they're hardly an 80's band, and sure as hell not a "novelty". Adam Ant is a novelty, or the likes, but not a band who's been touring, recording and performing for over 30 years...
