Destination Anywhere

I've got a simple question to everybody more aknowledged than I in this matter - the Destination Anywhere DVD, is it worth buying? Don't read a lot on this forum concerning the CD either, what is everybodys opinion about it? Just curious..

Me myself think it's rather good; not in the class of Richie's solo projects or Blaze Of Glory, but still better than at least Crush and Bounce (don't even mentioning TLFR ). The CD:s strongest quality, in my opinion, is that Jon's inspiration writing good lyrics at that time was still very high. All since then it seems to have decreased. Too bad.

I also have a quite funny comparison to make between Bon Jovi and a famous pop-star from my hometown. Don't know if anybody is familiar with a guy called Per Gessle? Member of Roxette and the swedish band "Gyllene Tider". He's one of the most popular singers/artists in sweden, but I find a couple of similarities between him and Bon Jovi. First of all, his music has changed a lot since the eighties (not so strange ), and in the same way like Bon Jovi's. He's trying to hold on to his popularity by craeting songs that he knows people in common will like, but without any depth in them. He's trying to hold on to the things that made him (and his bands) so popular 20 years ago - but very modified and much more plain, if you understand what I mean. Like if he is afraid to lose his fans, if he's trying to make something new and different. The same with Bon Jovi; to me their music is still good, but it's not much better than the average rock-music these days. It's not like These Days, Keep The Faith or any of the older CD:s, which has a greater depth, and songs that you can really relate to in everyday life, somehow. Don't know what I'm trying to say with this, more that I hope that Bon Jovi will not turn into one of those bands which are good, but very predictable. I'm not saying that thay should tro to make another These Days ('cos that will be impossible), but I really whish that the still have the guts to write songs that can make an impact on me, songs that can really mean something.
This short thread developed into a not so short one, but I felt like I needed to write something about my today's feelings about Bon Jovi. Hope you find my english understandable too.

I like it. It has some really great tunes.
I've always been wondering how it would be if the band had recorded(ed?) it. It's great craftsmanship in the songwriting.

I was a big fan of Roxette in the early 90's. I dropped they for BJ haha when I discoverd BJ i gave up Roxette
Per Gessle must be one of the biggest hitmakers ever to have walked on this planet. His chours are so catchy that it scares me! I think the title of one of their "best of" sum up Roxette: "Don't Bore Us, Get to the Chorus!"
Not sure, where you're going with you're comparison to BJ, but I've always thought of Gessle as a man who just wrote songs for fun and summer.

Your original question was about the DVD. It was worth it for me. I never saw any of the videos from that CD & there is like 4 or 5. I was very surprised. I loved that CD from the day it came out, so when the DVD became available, I was all over it.

I was not very impressed with the 45 min short movie on there however. I think it is a great example of a singer trying to be an actor, and it just doesn't work. He even surrounded himself with a great cast & it still didn't work. The chemistry between him & Demi Moore is some of the worst I have seen.

However, I will reiterate that it was still worth the purchase because I love that CD.

I didn't really think the short movie was up to much, but the DVD is worth it if you like high quality surround sound music because the couple of videos on there are in dts 5.1

If you're a collector of Jovi stuff and you see it cheap enough like me then yes. DA was a great album and obviously the film has lots of the music in it. Unfortunetly I was just getting into it and it ended. It's not a good movie, but on the DVD are some cool extras like videos of 5 songs and an interview about the making of DA with Jon.

Try getting hold of the Double DA CD with the Live bonus CD. Dont bother with the DVD its shit

It's definetly worth it for the Queen Of New Orleans video and the other videos too, although they do tend to use the same scene over and over again (I was going to scream if I saw "This wicked world makes me want to crawl" one more time). The film's not great, but it's worth a look just to flesh out some of the songs a bit.

Bottom line is, how much is it going to cost you? If you can get it for the equivalent of less than £7, you may as well pick it up

I don't rate the short film myself, and I don't have the DVD, but as already said, if you collect Bon Jovi stuff it's worth getting. I'd quite like it myself, but really not keen on the film.

I like the album though, and it's got some great songs on it!

And I love(d) Per Gessle and Roxette (although only the early- to mid-nineties stuff). I got the box set, and the only songs I like are those that I heard +-15 years ago. I guess it could be said that Joyride was their Keep The Faith. The similarity ends there - I started being a Bon Jovi fan because of KTF, and stopped being a Roxette fan after Joyride. But I still think Per Gessle is cool as ffff. Plus I like some of Gyllene Tider.

Thank's for giving you opinions! It seems hard to find the double disc version of DA here in Sweden; but the CD together with the dvd is quite cheap (about £10), so I guess there's not much doubt it is worth a purchase!

My comparison with Gessle wasn't ment in musical terms; more the development of the careers. And, I found one more similarity: the short piece used in the beginning of One Wild Night is used by Gessle in one of his solo projects (from -97 i think). I know it was earlier discussed here where this piece of music originally comes from, and I don't have an answer to the question; not more than that it was used by Gessle before Bon Jovi did use it. And, by the way, I'm no big fan of Gessle; but his music always make me feel something like summertime...
