Dialouge Maybe You Can Understand?

While browsing the message board, I was reading and repling to comments such as the special on QVC, the possibility of "Bounce" maybe being their last album, and several more topics of interest.

For some reason, I was inspired to write this short dialouge. Maybe someone agrees with me, maybe someone doesn't- either way, I would like to get to know how other people feel.

Bon Jovi can re-invent their style five times over, but they will always stay true to what their music is all about- good feeling, enjoyable, not to heavy/not to light rock and roll. Something everyone can come to appreciate- or relate to- no matter what their favorite "genre" is.

Think about it, the group has songs out that practically everyone knows. Prayer, Bad Name, Bad Medicine, Always, Wanted Dead or Alive, It's My Life, and I would say (while not yet as strong) Misunderstood from the newest album (it's becoming decently popular). Hell, you can even throw on something from the KTF or TD albums and someone is gonna remember it.

The guys have good crossover appeal, and I think that is something that everyone should appreciate. You got your bands who are just targeting one demographic because they wanna be cool- so the people who like those bands wanna be cool and tough. They don't wanna be associated with anything that isn't as cool or tough (heavier rock in this case) than their favorite band is.

I can be honest that there were times where I only wanted to listen to certain bands...all the time- I think we have all been in this position! I was a huge Beatles fan for a few years, Van Halen, Bon Jovi, and maybe two others. One thing that I have noticed is this: these four or five bands have made my enjoyment of music that much greater. Thanks to these bands, I have come to appreciate more types, bands, artists, etc;

One thing that I judge the success of a band (if success can be measured) by this: "have they opened the doors to more bands for me?" Can I tell who their influences are and go back, listen to them and appreciate them? Thanks to the passion that I have for music- created by my favorite bands- I enjoy listening to up and coming bands and artists that aren't "mainstream" quite yet.

Music. One of the greatest things in life. I can truly appreciate all forms because deep down, its making the people doing it extremely happy for themselves. To me, that is the most important thing- being happy.

While some of us can't play instruments, read music, or even sing, we can thank our favorite bands for giving us the appreciation for all music- good and bad!

I am fed up with the 'live life to the full' cliched message in BJ songs. I want some realistic rather than optimistic music.

That´s the reason I like These Days or Undiscovered Soul. But, obviously, I need sometimes to hear music as "Unplugged in New York" of Nirvana or songs as "streets of philadelphia".

I agree with you. Before Bon Jovi came along, I was not a music fan. Then I heard Bad Name on the radio and I was hooked. This is before I had MTV at my house, so I had no clue what they looked like. And when we did get mtv, and I saw the video, I thought to myself "Man, what a bunch of weird looking guys.." yeah, I was a dork. Anyhow...I became a fan of Bon Jovi, and a fan of rock music in general. They helped open my eyes to the world of music.

The one thing that I can say that has kept me a fan of Jovi was the uplifting message of their songs. Granted not all of their songs have a positive feel behind it, but you get my meaning.
So to those have complained about hearing the optimism in their music...go listen to somebody else. When I am feeling moody...I tend to listen to other things. Bon Jovi has always been my "pick me up" music. I feel so alive when I listen to it.

I look at Bon Jovi as my pick me up to. Its good time music to me.I believe in living life to the fullest,but I agree that realistically life isnt always full of sunshine. I love the These Days album because it is so different from all other jovi albums. It suits me fine for those moody days when you dont want to hear how great everything is or can be...blah,blah.

I agree that the band has opened me up to other types of music. I love to hear the influences of the band and have become a fan of alot of other music because of that.

I gotta disagree here. I listen to Bon Jovi to make myself feel good. I like their "live life to the fullest" message and I try to follow that philosophy.
People can't be optimistic all the time, but they aren't pessimistic all the time either.
Honestly, I don't care for These Days- and it's not because it's 99% pessimistic. Most of the songs are about the same thing, there's not enough rock on the album, the songs tend to drag (but som on Crush do to), and while some of the lyrics are great other songs have really stupid lyrics.
I'm glad that Bon Jovi can re-invent themselves so many times. Probably they will undergo another transformation in the future and release something totally different from anything that we have heard from them in the past. I hope they will be able to please all of their fans again and give us a balanced album (like NJ) the next time around.

it's probably the only album that's not like this

even though i prefer the 80s stuff they were more about being an 80s rock band
