Default did Hugh play on all BJ albums (except Fahrenheit :) )

thats from the Q&A of www.hueymcdonald.com

Hello Hugh, My name is Angelo Piscola. I have been a big fan of
>yours ... even before I knew who you were. Here is a funny
>story...maybe you will remember it. My friends Joe Salucci and Donna
>Grosso were playing at PARS in White Plains NY...back in the late
>80s. I used to play there also... along with a hundred other bands.
>We were called Little Criminals.
>The manager of Pars, Anthony Radice was our lead vocalist. I was the
>Drummer.....any way to make a long story short, Joe Salucci called
>me on the phone and told me he was going to be playing at PARS AKA J
>Parkers and to come by. We always would stop by to see each other
>play.
>When I arrived..You guys were already on stage. I was listening real
>closely to the bass and I said to myself I have heard this bass
>style before. Then it came to me....it sounded just like the bassist
>from Bon Jovi....again..this is back some 16 years ago. You finished
>your first set 35 minutes later and I came up and greeted Joe. He
>asked me how the sound was...always the first question out of a
>musicians mouth breaking from their first set....I said awesome. At
>that point you were wipng the white 5 string down from fingerprints.
>I told Joe the bass sounded just like the bassist from Bon
>Jovi....whome I love....he almost dropped to the floor....that is
>when he introduced us....he said...and I quote" Hey Hughey..
>This is my buddie Angelo and he said you sound like the bassist from
>Bon Jovi"
>You and Joe laughed together....And the joke was on me. You and I
>chatted for a while as you were telling me about the slippery album
>studio events and that you just finished the New Jersey album and
>the white 5 string was a gift from Jon .

>That is one of my favorite stories. It thrills me to see you onstage
>with the boys.
>Ever since I heard the Slippery album....the bassline from livin on
>a prayer started it all for me....Your precision ' execution; and
>style have captivated me ever since.... you were the bassist I
>always wanted to play with....even before I met you. LOL.
>I hope you enjoyed this bit of nostalgia....whether you rember it or
>not. God Bless and I will see ya at the next show. Sincerely, Angelo
>Piscola

Wow! I remember every bit of that story. Thanks for the memories.[/b]

Yes, he did. It was an open secret for a very long time and it seems that he is allowed to talk about it now openly. Until a few years back he wasn't. In another question on his homepage he answers the question directly.

I know but some people meant that he didn't mean it seriuosly on the last question.
Just thought it`s interessting that he admits it like that. I don't get that, why was Alec a band member for so long if he iddn`t play on the albums and made lot`s of mistakes live ?

judging by the bootlegs i have Alec was a great live player in the 80's. It was during the Keep the Faith era (just what I have heard I dont have any bootlegs from that tour) that he started not belonging to the band that much and made a lot of mistakes live. Reportedly they turned the bass way down during a lot of songs on the KTF tour. But that's just what it is a rumour. And by that does it really mean that Alec didn't play a note on SWW and NJ and KTF??? Not it just means that Huey played on them, which could be some tracks or all.is just pure speculation now but until one of the band members say it like it is(which I doubt they ever will) it will be just what it is now just pure speculation. But as I always say: What the hell do I know???

Javier is right. Yes, he played on all albums but that doesn't mean that he played everything on every song. When you look into the credits of the albums, Hugh always stands there.

Alec fitted optical better into the band back in the 80s than Hugh did. Maybe that's also a reason why they choosed Alec for the live performances.

some guys can be excellent musicians but just can't record.

It's alot harder sitting down and banging somethign out perfect along with a click than it is to go at it live.

Maybe alec couldn't
