Default Cheese?!??!

Bon Jovi writes great lyrics. They make girls wish for that special romantic guy, and give guys a good mold to follow. I know anytime I sang a Bon Jovi song to a girl, I had her in the palm of my hand. And Richie got Heather F'n Locklear with those lyrics!! So no, they are in no way cheesey.

I don't mind if some of their lyrics are cheesy.
They have some songs with very good and quite deep lyrics, and the other, these I'll love you till the end of time"-lyrics... well if you listen to those songs, it's some kind of romantic escapism, you (esp. as a fermale listener ^_^) can dream of "true love", things you don't experience very often in daily life. Not all songs have to have the intention to win the Nobel price for Literature, after all, it's just entertainment.

And if you feel lonely and lovesick, the best cure is still to lay down on your bed, eat a lot of chocolate and listen to some Bon Jovi ballad...

Somehow u sound like an expert on that, well in case u never thought about that, laying on yer ass all day & eating chocolate just get you fat, and when u get faaaaaaat the lesser are ur chances to get laid, so u end up with more chocolate and so on, and I bet cheesy Jovi-crap won't make u feel any better......or did u already know all that? Oh, and well, Jovi has nothing to do with that!....

Another one with melted brain.....geez and how on earth u ppl can say that crap like "always" isn't cheesy? it's like some one third of what jovi has released is written to make them lil gals wet & to gain airplay. And i bet them guys has laughed their asses off writing, noone can be serious with stuff like that....In case u never noticed, there are other ways to write a slow song than just to pour all the cheese in the world to it.

Oh and one more point. Im not intentionally pointing this out to few of u I quoted. It is ok to like that cheese u know......if u know of anything better

What the hell is going on on this topic??? I said that I love bj's lyrics and that they had some special meanings to my life, and because of that, im the target audience and I'm just one of those stupid teen girls blinded by Jon's smile???well hello, im not in the target audience, because I don't like songs that play now on the radio. Crap like radiohead, tree doors down etc don't interest me. I've said that their songs has special meanings to my life, its because I've had alot of hard times last years, and alot of bj's songs has helped me(even if it may sounds stupid to some) and I can relate to alot of their stuff. And its because we are teenagers that we love jon's fake smile. I love his smile, but sometimes its faked and I don'T appreciate it like a real smile would be. I don'T think people has melted brain or are insane because they love bj's ballads. Cheesy is a relative word. Some stuff will be cheesy for someone, and not for one. It all depends on your emotions, and personnality. There are some songs that I found cheesy like you had me from hello etc, but its still romantic to me, because im open minded and romantic in heart. but im not insane or weird, or alien because of this. Somebody ask for people's opinion, and immediately , when you say yours, people start laughing at you, and everything. well wake up, everybody got a different mind, just let it be!!! anyway, dont want to start any fight or something so Im gonna shut my mouth before I might say things I dont really think lol

Don't take this by any means personally, but them songs are meant to touch your heart. or move ya. or bring tears to your eyes. or to be the songs u can relate to. you ARE part of the target audience, whether you like it or not.

13 year old girl- that's pretty funny. I am the mom of two teenagers. And I know deep lyrics- I am as much of a Bruce Springsteen fan as I am of Bon Jovi. I like all kinds of different music from blues to rock to country. But I like each for different reasons. As I said Bon Jovi write songs that appeal to us regular folks- they are not trying to write poetry or have deep meaning. Their songs are entertaining but they also express faith, hope, optimism and yes, true love. No less than the New York Times said something similar in their review of Giants 2001. See below

"There can be trouble in Bon Jovi's world, because heroes must fight to make themselves meaningful. But there is no disappointment. The darkness that lends gravity to the songs of New Jersey's other bard, Bruce Springsteen, didn't even make it to the edge of this show. Romantic pain was lightened by a frolicsome beat and amusing lyrics, as in the raucous "Bad Medicine," and life crises were clad in Western garb and made epic, as in the soaring "Blaze of Glory" and the solemnly grand "Wanted Dead or Alive."

The band's genius lies in its rejection of the belief that rock is the art of outcasts, freeing the hunger and rage that society fights to suppress. Bon Jovi's music releases something else: conventional desire. Happy to get halfway toward their goals, religious enough to resort to prayer in difficult moments and pledged to a monogamous vision of romance, the characters in Bon Jovi songs could be in an Andy Hardy film or a Stephen Foster ballad.

Relentlessly singable melodies reinforce the message that longing brings people together rather than driving them apart. Musical connections surfaced constantly in Friday's hit-packed show. "Bed of Roses" shared a soaring climax with "Blaze of Glory," while the recent hit, "It's My Life," was not only a lyrical sequel to 1986's "Livin' on a Prayer," but also echoed the earlier song in its verse-chorus structure. "

So, I am not the only "13 year old" who sees Bon Jovi lyrics for what they are. I don't mean to be critical but sometimes I have to wonder when there is such clear distaste for anything the band or Jon does among some members of this board why they spend time at a fanboard. Do you spend time at other fanboards of groups you actually like and respect? No one is doing brain surgery here- it is just about entertainment after all. Seems to me if I was as disillusioned as some of you seem to be from your posts I would find another use for my time, but that's just me.

I'm 27.

And overall I like Bon Jovi lyrics a lot. It MOVES me. Yeah, "moves" is the word here. Bon Jovi songs (lyrics+melody) have a lot of heart and character. And I'm not only talking about their love songs.

Well what I still dont understand is why some people think that being a member of the board and liking the band should mean that we have to like & love everything they do. To make it short, I like them as a rock band, I hate them as teen-pop-ballad band.

That's fine. That is one of the reasons I also post here, even though I am a Backstager as I in general like the open discussion. But it seems lately that there is some real dislike of everything the band and particularly Jon does (even his smile ) so if a band or a person was annoying me that much I would not be spending too much time on their fan board. I am not a fan of everything any artist does but if I like them enough to participate on a fan board in general I will probably be fairly positive most of the time I post or what is the point. I got enough people in the real world to annoy me- I don't have to seek it out when I am supposed to be having fun I certainly respect that there are some who do not like the direction the band have taken at various points be it Crush, Bounce, or TLFR (though I think a lot of you are real stuck on These Days and KTF as the be all and end all) but maybe being older I look at it differently. Not many bands can keep a career going for over twenty years and none can do it without changing in some way or another. 80's hair metal may be making a comeback now thanks to The Darkness but the musical reality Bon Jovi returned to in 2000 was a disposable pop one. Despite that they managed to have a radio hit that brought them back, in the US anyway, from the dead and back to public consciousness. They managed to have two very successful tours even if Bounce was lackluster in sales. They have been Grammy nominated the last few years despite never being the critics' darlings. And they had the balls to release a greatest hits album with a twist- knowing some people were going to probably hate it because they feel secure about their music and in the songs. Bon Jovi are survivors- they sell out venues, they are not playing state fairs like their 80's contemporaries, and they have done it their way. And I think they always will survive in some manner despite the horrendous music scene right now as long as they still want to make music .
