Bon Jovi's brand of cheese, huh?
What a degrading statement ... Thank you for basically calling people who genuinely like Bon Jovi songs for both lyrics and melody idiots in your post. And, yes, I know you didn't say it. But there were "hints". Thank God you admit that the band has "hints" at the intelligence though. That makes me feel so much better.

Santa Fe,
I think you completely mistook me. Simply, what I meant is that Rock N' Roll is a cliched genre. Yes, Bon Jovi's lyrics fall into that same trap, but, overall, they are slightly less-cliched than some of their peers.
What I meant by "hints at intelligence" is that the band does come up with insightful and unique lyrics on occasion. They are capable of writing better-- by better I mean more original-- lyrics, but often fall into the mode of using cliches.
The original question was: does Bon Jovi realize this? My answer is of course. It's the basis of Rock N' Roll.
I was neither attacking the band, nor attacking it's fan base. Please don't lump me in with the others who have nothing but negativity. I love the band and always have. I don't see how pointing out that their lyrics are often cliched and sappy changes that.
The whole point is that Bon Jovi is not about intellectual stimulation on a lyrical level. Yes, the lyrics might occasionally make you think and are meaningful, but you rarely have to look deep into the songs to get their meaning. It's very straight forward and obvious, and very cliched. Take a look at "Let It Rock." The whole song is one cliche after another.
Is that a bad thing? I don't think so. Like I said before, Bon Jovi is really about emotional release and "fun." They are a fun band that makes you feel better and many of their songs have a ton of meaning in my life.
And for the record, I don't think all their lyrics are cliches. Like I said before, you really do get hints on the albums that they are capable of writing some great lyrics. And by hints, I mean for every "I'm going to kiss the sky, spread these wings and fly" (which are two cliches-- often used and repeated expressions in general language) they toss in something like "I watched life criticize the truth" which is just a great line.
Hope that clears things up. And I do apologize if you in any way thought I was attacking the intelligence of Bon Jovi fans. I wasn't. I'm one of them.
