Over here in Holland, there's a magazine called Oor (ear). It's kinda like the Dutch Rolling Stone, only worse and more into alternative stuff. They have a critic who is their hard-rock specialist called Hans van den Heuvel. Every freakin review about BJ starts with 'īt's not cool to like BJ' but in the end he always praises them, whether it's a live show or an album review. You know he really digs it, but he's really afraid to admit he's a fan. He's always at every show, has every album and dvd etc etc. but he still has to defend himself. I think that's the main thing with BJ. You just are not allowed to like them, because all people think about are Bed of roses and Always. They don't see the band for what they truly are: excellent musicians with great showmanship and truly moving songs.

ahh well,,,,,
Who cares, I'm just tired of having to defend my taste all the time, it's tiring to see everybody walking around in the latest hip-shirts (like that cool ahum Blink 184 and crap like that) and when I'm wearing my BJ shirt I'm laughed at......arghhh...the frustration......need proffesional help NOW

Take care, Poops

I totally agree with you. If you don't like the music, fine. But at least explain why you don't like the music. Don't just go on about the haircuts, the 80's, blah blah blah. Have *real* reasons why you like or don't like something.

To tell you the truth, I ignore most critics because music is so personal. My husband loves bands that I hate, and the reverse it true, too. Yet, even with many bands that I don't like, I often find something worthwhile in one or two of their songs-maybe a good guitar solo or lyric or something. Most of the negative reviews I've read about BJ don't have *anything* nice to say. Makes me nuts.

Lets remember however that synthesizers have taken over real music and it's a suvival of the prettiest nowadays. Now I'm not saying Bon Jovi aren't good looking, but they are making music that is not accepted by most people these days. It's unfortunate, but we have to live with it. I like what I like and I don't care. :P

I agree with most of you. I can live with criticism on BJ albums, as long as the critics give reasons why they do not like it. If criticism isn't justified and only mirrors the personal taste of the critic I do care because then it's not objectiv and not worth being in official magazines, tv-shows etc. I don't like the imagination of people getting payed for using their job as a critic as an outlet for their personal discontent (or whatever).
Another thing is that I don't believe in the honesty of most critics.
Hardly anyone in the world can judge an album without having prejudices towards certain kinds of music and without being influenced by the personal point of view.
