Default Does anybody else feel a bit bored with BJ

Hey, its not a bashing thread, its just, it might even be an age thing, i dont think it is though, but after watching the One Night Only thing last sat, it just made me laugh how, when you listen to Jon speaking, he reminds me of a lot of the boring corporate business tossers i deal with on a daily basis who think theyre saving the world!! I mean, this is a rock/pop band, its just music, its meant to be fun surely, but they look so serious all the time, especially Jon, its boring, im sure he never used to be that bad! They seriously need a big break now, its funny, i'd never ever miss them on tour but this time i havent even bothered to get tickets, something I thought i'd never do, anybody else feel the same?

was thinking the same last night in a discussion with Mrs Steel_Horse.

The word that kept cropping up was OVERKILL.

There has been too much Jovi since 2003. Too many tours and too many average albums. Its the reason (that and the fact its Hyde Park) why I am not going to the UK tour next year -the first since 1990.
They have nothing new to play thats worth hearing.

I really hope that after the GH tour they dissapear for at least 5 years and find that magic ingredient that made them a great band and write great songs again.

TBH im not even interested in solo albums. If I dont hear the words Bon Jovi for another 5 years it wouldnt bother me. They need to go off the radar for a long time - come back and then blow us away again - something they havent done for a long time.

I have to agree with you. The last show I saw as on the Have a NIce Day tour(granted it was the very same day that Richie got his divorce papers), but it really felt like they were going through the motions. It was the 9th show I have seen and was noticeably inferior to the rest of the shows i had seen. The thing about Jovi recently is that whenever I bought a jovi album in the past their were 3 or 4 songs that I loved, 4 or 5 songs that i enjoyed, and 2-3 songs that I didnt care for. It feels like lately the trend has reversed; 1-2 songs i love, 1-2 songs i like, and alot i dont bother listening to after the 1st listen. It seems lately that they are more fueled by ambition than passion. I dont blame them, they are on their way to leaving an unprecedented legacy in terms of album sales and ticket sales. But I would prefer if they took a break and only write and record when they were truely inspired (case in point undivided and last man standing) and thus make 'the' album that we in jovination know they are capable of. I expect that (it will take a few nominations), but once they get into the rock and roll hall of fame they'll pack it in for the most part. Jon will probably focus more on acting, richie will do alot more work as a studio musician, dave will move into maybe concept albums and continue his broadway work, and tico will be so old at that point that it wont really matter what he does. I am dissapointed but I must say that I am proud of what they have become, sort of like when a friend of yours who has worked his ass off and fullfills his dreams.

Theyre still my favourite band but I,m just pissed off with JBJ believing his own hype that "I want to sell out the desert, and can." No you cant Jon, you cant sell out the 02. I,m just finding him to be a little annoying and pretentious now days especially with his "voice of the working man" while he rips the working man off and boasts about having a helicopter(at least I think thats what he said).
I,ll probably go next year but I,m not fretting over getting tickets until after Xmas and if they sellout(doubtful) then so be it. Dont think I,ll be too bothered if they had a 5 year break because they,ll only come back with IML/PRAYER part 10 anyway.

its funny i am having like a life growing experience or something and feeling a very similar way...for me its much more about the setlists and the shows being much too similar or starkly exactly the same....

its still shocking to me that i would even think to miss the best buy show and the one night only...but there you have it....

i will not be attending the shows at MSG and i will go if they end the tour in Giants or something which i dont even know if they are doing but i suspect they will...

i will however only go on the very last night....

another reason - very similar - is that i am SUPER eccitted to see the black crowes twice this weekend at the 930 club in DC - where over the course of both sides i would be surprised if they play 3 songs twice and not surprised at all if they play zero songs twice...

i am rewarded for being a big fan and studying the band...

big difference...

my peace

I've been a fan since like forever and I still get a thrill from seeing them live. I do agree they need a break even though I will miss them. They need a break to get a new perspective on things. I think the song writing has been lacking in some areas. The albums for me in the last couple of years have had bright spots as well as lows. They are still my favorite band.

I personally would be happy to see them tour every year, but they definitely do need a break as it shows in terms of songwriting and how tired and miserable they appear to be.

Plus the casual market that keeps the big tours going has been saturated, especially over here. When I ask friends to go, its met with "only saw them last year/not long ago". So in that respect they could do with a couple of years off to go away and be with family or do solo projects.

yep - since HAND Jovi have been over here (UK) every year apart from 2009.
thats 2006, 7, 8 & 10 and they are coming back in 2011.

They need to visit places every 3 years or so. Not every 12 months.

i think thats all wrong except for maybe a break to rejuvenate songwriting

its the live shows that need more attention...and i didnt think id ever say that...

if i went to the movie and they played the first 6 from giants night 1...well lets just say aside from DR which must have been beautiful...well anyway...

id love for them to be in my town everyday if they really came to play....
