I'm one of those that's been into the band forever, and no I'm not bored. record wise there is enough material to keep me interested, at the moment I'm on a DA kick, next week who knows??
Live I still love to go watch this band play, it's still fun for me no matter what the setlist is although I'm always thrilled if I hit a show where something rare comes out. Like Deb I have friends spread out across the US and it's a good excuse to get together with them as well, plus see the friends I have made over the years because of BJ.

IMO theres only a handful of songs wrote after TD that are anywhere near the quality of the first 6 albums.
I don't think it's all based on nostalgia, nor do I think that's entirely what BP was saying. I just don't think that my opinion is any less valid just because I got into in 2001.

As for being bored with the band, it's kind of a weird question. I listen to a lot of music throughout any given week, and often times will end up listening to a lot of a particular artist for a while (for example, I've been on an obsessive Billy Joel kick the last week+ ), and sometimes won't listen to certain artist much for a while. Doesn't mean I'm bored with them though, just into something else at that moment. As for live, honestly the only time I'm bored is when the show is horrid, like NMS Night 4. Now that's not saying I like stagnant sets and don't want more rarities, because I REALLY do, but if I'm at a good Jovi show, most of the songs still get to me like it the first time.

That really is a big part of the deal. We get too stuck on expecting/hoping for rare songs. It's not just about the rare songs, but making us fall in love with the standards again. They did that repeatedly with Bad Medicine each time I saw them this past year.. and I don't even like the song that much. It's always been their strong point as far back as the beginning in performing the song with conviction so even the ones you were apathetic about previously became new favorites.

This. Of course, I will hope for These Days, Dry County, etc (I'm not silly). But if I don't hear them, oh well. I will still get the enjoyment out of it, because most likely I heard some of my favorites, which are in the regular rotation. I'm still gonna enjoy the heck out of Prayer, Wanted, KTF, and the others. That's part of the magic. Keeping the 20 year old hits sounding good. It is something to admire, really. I'm not a fan of Bad Medicine either, but I still like it live.

No I am not bored...I appreciate the live YouTube songs no matter how similar or even cloned the songs, the set lists and the stage patter are. The sameness of Jon's and Richie's interviews don't bother me. The only thing that annoys the hell out of me for some reason is the publicity shots where the band members become male models staring blankly and oh-so-seriously at the cameras. They don't look like they are enjoying each other or enjoying making music and I don't understand the image they are trying to project by looking constipated. Hmmm, and some of their crappy official videos annoy me--I momentarily forgot them. They really need to start utilizing some cool video effects even if they don't want to follow trends vocally or musically.

I have lived all my life in the arctic so I have never seen a BJ concert except on the internet. It is not the price of the tickets but the expensive round-trip tickets to wherever and the cost of hotels and transportation, plus finding my way in a strange city, plus taking off work and arranging babysitters, etc. Not doable.

I think they have written some great songs and I think there has at least been good songs off every CD in the last 25+ years. There is nothing wrong with being commercial; in fact, some major artists have lost me over the years by turning their backs on commerce and finding self-fulfillment in "arty," deep, musical expression. Screw that! Give me some beats and some hooks. If I want arty, there is any number of artists I can listen to and enjoy.

I hope that all these months of touring, the GH release and the on-going publicity result in their getting into the Rock Hall of Fame. The validation would mean a lot to the band and to its fans. Then they can give it a rest and find new direction.

To me there are two Bon Jovi's. The one you see live in concert and the 'Media Friendly' Jovi. There is a part of Jon (The Manager/Blind Ambition) that wants to play the real classics like: 'These Days', 'Dry County', 'Hard Letting You Go'. But he gets over 'Awed' by the media and jumps into 'Media Friendly Mode'. This is 'safe' for him. I wish he would take a risk like he speaks about in most of his songs and sing the songs that matter to his 'REAL' fans, not the 'media/casual fan loving stuff'.

cheers

Tyler

I guess I'm not that bored with Jovi because I got my first ever tattoo today. 'Always' on my left wrist.

Strangely since I agreed I,m getting bored with BJ I,ve not stopped listening to them. Evn to the point where I,m watching the TLFR dvd right now.
And on that point I,ve also watched the Hyde Park vids and noticed on one of the songs that David Bryan has a young lad sat behind him. Is it his son does anyone know?
