Does Jon actually think these are good introductions?

There are many stars out there that do repeat the same lines over and over.

A Australian artist, John Farnham (was lead of the Little River Band for a short time in the late 70s - early 80s), has made jokes about the "Dragon mother-in-law" he has since the day his first single came out - in like 1968. I went to a concert of his about 5 years ago now, and realised afterwards that there was not a single mother in law joke. After doing a bit of research, I discovered she had passed away - hence the jokes stop.

Another thing I believe he's done since day one is say some comment then "Oh Jilly's gonna kill me when I get home tonight" (referring to his wife).

...and then of course there's always the fan/John debate on whether or not he should sing "Sadie The Cleaning Lady" the song that brought him into the spot light to begin with. He always responds with: "I'm not singing bloody sadie!" ...then usually....3-4 songs later....sure enough there's sadie. Ok he mixes it up a bit there, one concert he'll sing Sadie like as though he's in an opera, the next he will be doing it country style. There's always changes to how that one's sung...but you always know when Sadie's coming up!

I think they all have their little catch frases that stick with them.

And...as a seasoned performer myself...I can safely say - those stage lights are murder. You are boiling hot, and sweating like a pig - half the time you are lucky if you can remember the words to the song let alone think up new comments on the spot....sometimes it's just safer to stick with the comments that have already been tried and tested so that you don't forget where you were up to and start the whole thing all over again.

Actually one can be an excelent showman/frontman and play guitar or bass all through the show.
A lot of bands do it this way, that way in those instrumental sections of the songs every musician on stage is doing something.

I'm just saying, I've seen bands that have a lead singer with a guitar strapped the whole show and managed to be more dynamic and charismatic than Jon dancing about and shaking his old ass.

Have heard of and actually seen them both live. Both great bandsmusically, but pure show/performance wise I'll take BJ with Jon running around all day over either act to watch. And no not because Jon shakes his ass, although I'll never say that isn't a nice bonus< lol!!!

The only band I've ever seen be riveting without a dynamic frontman quite honestly, is the Eagles.

So you've seen Metallica and Rush and both frontmen play an instrument all the way through the show. So you don't class these two legendary bands as successful? That's what you appear to be suggesting!

They seem a bit ego-trippy on stage. But then again, most frontmen are the same.

No i'm not saying they aren't successful at all. But when it comes to watching a band play live, bands like BJ, Van Halen with DLR, Aerosmith etc..... are more riveting live because they have dynamic energetic frontmen. I liked Mettalica live and I'm not a huge fan of theirs, but I still prefer the "show" from Jon on stage. watching bands without energetic frontmen for me is like there is something missing. To be honest I prefer listening to them over watching them. I just think live there needs to be some "show" in the show, that's all.

My best example was with Matchbox 20. They had a huge hit record out in America, and Rob Thomas has a great voice, but when I saw them live I was bored. Not that musically they weren't good, because they were. but because RT wasn't a very good performer. he just kind of stood there and sang. Some physical emotion to go along with all that passion in his voice would have made that show incredible. Live isn't just about the music. It's about taking the crowd in, making everybody feel what they felt, it's about selling those songs to people. Jon does it better than almost anyone I've ever seen.

I agree with whatever you just said, but to say that a frontman can't be dynamic and energetic and can't put on a good show because he plays guitar is a bit exagerated (so as not to say stupid).

It can be done, you just need to look at someone like James Hetfield and the likes to know it can be done, It's just that Jon's not that good at guitar, that's why you see him having problems singing and strumming along with his accoustic.

Besides, this started when talking about the dude from All American Rejects, They haven't been hiting the big stages as long as BJ, they're fairly new at playing arenas, if you found the singer a bit intimidated maybe that was one of the things to take into account??

WTF?? Its Jon. Would you want a band that stands up there and does not say a thing? Jovi is a band that is a part of their fans. You are young-my son's age. Soooo i can see this would be annoying for you. But being a fan since before my sin was born-I love it.

I know a fair amount of people who have kids and are in their thirties who think his introductions are awful and over the top. He's using one liners not even Stallone would've dared to use in his bad 80's flicks.
