Well said. Once I can play the solo easily, I will say that it isn't that good. Until then, I have to admire Richie's work on that song.

I'm just happy to see somebody else on here from Wales! You, Davesta, are the only other person on here that I have seen from the Worlds 2nd greatest country!
I have seen someone else on here from Wales, but I can't remember who it is!! Can I just ask wot the greatest country is? I always thought it was right here in the fatherland!! hehe

Anyway, back to the topic, first of all can I just say that Jovi29579, I do have some idea wot I'm on about, I've been playing guitar for years. I wasn't trying to say that the Dry County solo is bad. I'm sorry if I came across that way. I just meant that its not as technically brilliant as its often made out to be.

I think the ability to play fast is something that I think all serious guitarists try to reach, but it's actually quite easy to achieve with a lot of practice. I've reached the point where I can play fast enough to play the dry county solo (although I can't be bothered to learn it note for note!) and to be honest, it gets a little boring! The techniques used by Richie in other solos are a lot more difficult to master. I'm glad MyGuitar agrees with me so I don't feel totally alone in this opinion!!

There's obviously no doubt that the emotion Richie puts into the Dry County solo makes it one of his best, but its not technically great, and thats the point I was trying to raise here.

Well I suppose that the greatest country to us really is Wales, the 'Fatherland' - (even though my great grand-father was Irish!), but lets just say that i haven't really got any intention of keeping Wales my country of residence forever!

I'm moving to Canada (God-willing) - But right now, I'm proud to be Welsh!

Default Ehh

Here's my take on the issue: As a 20 year old guitarist who has been playing for 5 years now, I think Dry County is one of Richie's Best Solos in Bon Jovi. I love it because the first one is so blues and then the second one is a little more 80s rocking. However, I do not think that this solo is very technically difficult by any means. I can probably play 80% of the solo right now and I've learned it just by ear without any tab. Melodically, I think the solo is what makes me like it so much...it can stand on it's own pretty dang well.

However, as far as technique is concerned, Dry County doesn't require that much. There are no dive bombs, no pinch harmonics, no pick scrapes really, besides the maybe the first line on the second solo there isn't much bar use, no tapping, no nothing really. Richie just uses great blues licks and ties everything together very well. Honestly, Richie's playing has gotten a lot less technical since New Jersey; maybe that's why I love KTF and TD so much better. Just off of my head, I know that Lay Your Hands and Bad Med use some pretty tough harmonics and whammy stuff.

I know this is a pretty long rant for such a topic but it's my first reply since the board changed like 10 months ago and I feel I kinda know what I'm talking about. Richie is my favorite guitarist, if you don't believe me check my band's website below, and I love how he has bluesy emotion as well as 80s tech but I ultimately don't think that Dry County's solo is amazing because of the later talent. Just my opinion.

So... Really the title of this post should be DC Solo - Not the most technically demanding

Yeah I have that version downloaded too... I think it's absolutely brilliant. I love Jon's little speeches at the beginning and the one above right in the middle... I pretty much memorized the exact words he said :P

"Every day a man wakes up and every day a man pours himself a cup of coffee and takes a good hard look in the mirror. Sometimes what he sees makes him angry, sometimes what he sees makes him sad. Sometimes what he sees is himself, and that disappointment just gets in ya' and rips at ya' little by little, piece by piece."

I have to agree...
I get a sense that people mindlessly say that it's the best solo because its long and fast....but I think Richie has felt it much more in other solos, which are relatively short, and therefore may not stand out to people...
Listen to the solo in My Guitar Lies Bleding In My Arms...it's short, yeah, but its seriously deep stuff with loads of feeling...Dry County's is good, but I think there's better ones out there we're missing.
