richie wrote the solo but guitar solos don't tend to get writing credits unless they are stand alone instrumentals such as 'eruption'.

I heard it on some bootlegs live, and I liked it pretty much... but it's also very long for a gig, and maybe that's why it didn't go on very well. But artistically speaking, it's a great performance, with the david's intro and the big guitar of Sambora.
And the lyric is amazing...

It's one of those songs that can recduce me to a crying gibbering wrek if I'm feeling emotionally stirred-up enough. I love the guitar solo and the video for it is one of my favourites (except for the stupid edited guitar solo damn u MTV)

My favourite song ever. Incredibly intense, even more so on the live versions I've heard, and musically and lyrically stunning. Most exciting guitar solo I've ever heard as well. I was listening to the solo the exact moment I turned 18

Yeah it's shit hot! It's so atmospheric and I love the keyboard/guitar riff with the strings in the background at the beginning. It gives the song a very emotional feel and then the lyrics kick in and you can just sense tragedy and sadness. The lyrics are great. Jon must have had a really good imagination at that point. I find the music complements the lyrics and vice versa. Richies guitar solo is imense. I tend to see the solo in two parts, where the first part is kinda slow and Richie seems to get his guitar to cry or weep. Then the keyboard kicks in and there is a gradual build up to the second part, which is much more explosive. It truly is a great instrumental and one hell of a good song. It's one of the reasons why I like Keep The Faith so much.

richie would have got a performing credit on dry county whereas Jon would pick up the writing credit (and alot more money)

for "instrumental" (and I mean the foundation of the songs or really important parts that "make" the song, not the instruments playing) he would get a writing credit like the riff in living on a prayer and the hook on it's my life.

back to the topic in hand. I was thinking about dry county the other day and I see it more as a song about losing hope and faith as opposed to a story about a guy who goes off to make money leavng his wife and kids at home.
