Yeah same here. A town that is exausted and no longer has the resources to run. There's no jobs, money or anything to trade with and the people live in poverty without being able to escape. They're praying for the break that will keep them alive. That's how I interpretate it.

Well written songs are good, because they allow you to use your imagination to interpretate them how you want.

as far as i look at it, the dry county and all the stuff he sings about in it, rivers running dry, ;eabing his wife n kids etc... is really just using symbolism to describe how he was feeling/ loss of faith/ trying to hold on etc....

I can kinda see Aberdeen going that way once the oil's run out in like 30 years. A lot of the companies and industries rely on the oil industry here.

Paraphrasing that speech Jon gives before that one live version of DC, maybe give you a bit of a better idea:

"Couple of years ago we took a little bit of a break. We got off the roads, we stopped making records ... I think for a while we stopped living. All we had to do was run away from something that we loved to find out if we liked it any more, and after living for about seven, eight years out of a trunk (or is it suitcase? I forget), we had to go home and figure out what those four letters meant. So we all went our seperate ways, and we all went to find something. I got on a motorcycle, and went to go see the county. And what I found, I liked a lot. What I found was a lot of people just like me, so it didn't get me down, just sorta fuelled the whole process. And if you let me, I'll take you on the back of my bike, and take you to a place ... that place is called Dry County"

From memory, so it might not be word-perfect

No need to be so harsh.

Its always interesting to know the backstory of the songs. Just because you don't care, doesn't mean no-one else does

I know and it's not like I wouldn't read the explanations by the artists if I came across them.

yes they can. That is what an interpretation is by definition. Apply your views and experiences to the subject matter at hand.
