Default EMI to release Live 8 DVD

EMI To Release Live 8 On DVD
Monday June 27, 2005 @ 03:00 PM
By: ChartAttack.com Staff

Bob Geldof

Giving away free tickets for a charity concert makes little sense, especially when raising awareness isn't nearly as beneficial as raising funds.

Live 8has just announced it's teaming up with music giant EMI for a worldwide deal for the Live 8 performances happening on July 2. According to the agreement, EMI will provide a large financial contribution to the Live 8 organization in exchange for the worldwide DVD rights to its concerts in the UK, Canada, US, France, Germany and Italy.

The concerts include performances by Bryan Adams, Bon Jovi, Coldplay, Sheryl Crow, Deep Purple, Dido, Green Day, Jay-Z, Elton John, Annie Lennox, Linkin Park, Madonna, Maroon 5, Paul McCartney, Pink Floyd, REM, Scissor Sisters, Sting, Joss Stone, U2, Keith Urban, Velvet Revolver, Robbie Williams, Brian Wilson and Stevie Wonder.

"We are very grateful to EMI for their financial contribution which helped to make the July 2nd concerts happen everywhere on the planet and thus nudge the world a little closer towards our shared aim," said Bob Geldof. "I hope this will be the biggest selling DVD of all time. It deserves to be."

Geldof isn't the only one excited. EMI Music Canada President Deane Cameron is just as keen. "On its own, the Toronto area show already boasts an astonishing line-up of artists," he said.

For further info on artists performing at the concerts, go to the Live 8 website.

it does when most of the money from the last one went to buy nice cars and houses for the people in charge. that;s why the aim of this one has been to raise awareness.

but i digress. i f they can raise alot of money then power to them. i just hope they have abetter idea of how to distribute it beneficially.

Ditto, I'm glad we are getting this news already. It's insurance for whatever we miss when it airs live.

Ok there might be some decent stuff in it, but deep down the whole crap is overrated. Everyone wants to take part and appear holier than hole for good cause. doh! Performance ain't the main thing, main thing is being there.

EMI Wins World Rights For Live 8 DVDs
June 27, 2005
By Emmanuel Legrand

EMI has secured the worldwide DVD rights to July 2 Live 8 concerts in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, France, Germany and Italy.

The British record company has concluded what it describes as "a unique agreement" with the Live 8 organization, by which it provided Live 8 with "a major financial contribution" in return for the worldwide DVD rights.

Sources said EMI provided Live 8 with a multi-million dollar advance, which will contribute to offset the production costs of the various concerts.

In a statement, Live 8 organizer Bob Geldof said, "We are very grateful to EMI for their financial contribution which helped to make the July 2 concerts happen everywhere on the planet and thus nudge the world a little closer towards our shared aim."

It is understood that the deal has been negotiated at the highest level at EMI, with the involvement of EMI Music chairman/CEO of Alain Levy, EMI Music U.K. and Ireland chairman/CEO Tony Wadsworth and EMI Continental Europe chairman/CEO Jean-Francois Cecillon.

The DVDs will be released around the world in November, with a series of locally-tailored DVDs featuring live footage from the concerts.

Geldof said he hoped it would become "the biggest selling DVD of all time. It deserves to be."

It's not much different than the first one - did you not enjoy that?

1st one was cool. and very enjoyable. sure. but most performances were kinda crap. I'm expecting this to be the same.

And like said, Bob Geldof is just a pr!ck on a search for credit. Man failed with his musical career miserably and figured out another way to stay in fame. That doesn't lessen the cause though.

How do you figure that out? Whether you like the guy or not, he's done more to raise the awareness of the problems in Africa than any politician alive today!
