Entertainment Weekly 10-11-02

The new EW has a "review" of Bounce and notes the lawsuit over the access codes. The review is by that David Browne guy who wrote the article last year about how he couldn't understand why Bon Jovi was successful. It's not a review so much as Mr. Browne continuing to whine.

I've already composed a response to send to the magazine. Since they'll never print it, here you go. By the way... Val and Tony... don't read this.

A bigger mystery than the construction of the Pyramids is the idea that anyone could take David Browne seriously as a music critic. The fact that he spent 90% of his recent "review" of Bon Jovi's Bounce venting his bitter frustration and confusion over the band's longevity and success shows that, without a doubt, he had his mind made up about Bounce long before he ever heard it. He hails Springsteen's commercial abuse of the events of 9-11 and, yet, derides Bon Jovi's generalization of the spirit of optimism, hope, and faith that has been pervasive throughout their career. Here's a clue for you, Mr. Browne: Bon Jovi is successful because they tap into the hope and goodness that the general population wants nourished. Perhaps EW should hire a less biased reviewer and spring for some counseling for Mr. Browne so he can sort out his issues and then get back to actually reviewing some music.

I picked up my copy of EW this morning looking forward to reading the review, but hoping and praying David Browne wasn't the reviewer. This guy absolutley hates, and despises Bon Jovi. Even if Bon Jovi were to record the ultimate rock masterpiece, he'd still pan it. He spends the whole review making fun of them. It's just so malicious and wrong. The sad thing is, a lot of people are going to read this "review", and be convinced not to purchace it. David Browne just doesn't get it.

We have to fight EW for publishing this crap. Mr. Browne will not stop bashing the band. I already know what he is going to write about all future Bon Jovi releases. Unless he is given clear instructions from someone above. Let's all write to EW and tell them how we feel. Becky's reply is a nice pattern for us.

We dont get ew in the uk, but i have read the review and it sounds like jealousy to me. ann

I don't think it's jealousy - it's hatred. His hatred penetrates all his publications about this band. That's why I don't understand EW. How they can publish this? That's the main question for me.

Just read the article in EW (which the UK dont get) and have to agree with what has been said on here. The guy who wrote the review is obviously jealous and has such a hatred for the band. Becky's reply is just whats needed to let the higher powers know that the fans are fed up with negative reviews of the BJ.

Yeah that Browne dude should lighten up.

This guy's articles are so bad...he has to re-write them just to get them rejected.

What a jackass. I know he is just trying to get a emotional reaction from us, and he has done that...he has angered me. However, I think if we all write EW and just tell them we will no longer be reading his articles, that would be better. If we tell them he is stupid, or an idiot, or a jack ass like I just did, then that is what they are looking for. If people start ignoring him, then THAT is when they will take notice.

Anyhow, just my thoughts.
