I read in an interview when the album was first released, that the song was about oral sex...and Becky...?...that 'golden showers' thing....? Just a little too much information!

We all know that you can read just about anything into just about any song if you want too....I'll go with Richie's version!

(and I'd also take what the 'ex' said with a grain of salt...God, if you believed 1/2 of what ex's say you'd think there wasn't a decent person alive on the face of the earth!!

Yes, but how do you read about condoms in a paper? Or how does "Where you look you can find it"-part fit with that? THe whole song is a metaphore for love/lust.
I agree that the song is about love/lust but the reference to '32 flavours' could be about condoms - some people find love in sex, or at least they think they do, so it is saying love comes in 32 flavours and this is a metaphorical representation of sex.

The ex in question was (I believe) that Playboy bunny he dated, Lehua Reed. And if you think it's TMI, imagine how I felt when, at 16 years old, I had to have it explained ot me what the hell the fan who told me about it was talking about! LOL

No, that dubious distinction goes to the KISS song, "I will make you feel.... okay!" And for Bon Jovi lyrics, it has to be the intellectually stimulating:

Lay Your Hands on Me
Lay Your Hands on Me
Lay Your Hands on Me
Lay Your Hands on Me

Nope, it's love: "You can read it in the papers, In some places it comes in thirty-two flavors", "Where you look, you can find it" ... I don't see how that could be about condoms...

Ice
Ever heard of flavoured condoms? And condoms can be a sex/love symbol, so I think you're both right.

Ponrauil

It's not just one metaphore, it's a lot of metaphores. These two lines don't have to be about one same thing. "You can read it in the papers" can be about tabloids reporting startlet affairs, "32 flavours" can be about condoms.
The song says that love is everywhere, that you can see it everywhere in many different forms and symbols, hence the "Where you look you can find it".

And from 'Naked'....

She said, "What's you hiding underneath that shirt?"
Right behind the buttons there's a heart that hurts
Adam's evening left the curse
Take it off make it work

Naked, naked - just get back to basics, yeah
Naked, face it - you can't fake it when you're (naked)
Naked (naked) face it
All I'm saying

The tail you been chasing
Put the K back in kink
Threw a coin in her jukebox
I started to think

No, not in 1986. Condom use still hadn't quite taken hold among heterosexuals.

That's what they were saying earlier in this thread.

huh?

condoms are not only used to prevent STPs and even in the 'dark ages' of the 80s there was a variety of condoms available :P - not really sure how many, but many lol.
