Every Bon Jovi fan should read this
Every Bon Jovi fan must read this
Hey all – this is neither my first post on Dry County but it will be the last (I have had various passwords over the years that I keep forgetting them as I didn’t always post every single day so I had to get a new online registration everytime).
That point was just to reiterate that I AM a Bon Jovi fan and have been since 1989 (when I was 9 years old). I have always visited this site ever since 1999.
Anyway, I am absolutely disgusted with the apathy of half of you reading this. I say half because I know there are still some Bon Jovi fans out there who don’t dismiss the guys for what they do and appreciate their music.
All this negativity over Have A Nice Day really isn’t warranted – I know everyone is entitled to their opinions and guys that’s fine….but really – this is a Bon Jovi fan site. You would think by all the negativity surrounding the music the guys make and constant comparisons to Coldplay, U2 et al that this was a site to trash the band I love.
Which other fan site do you constantly see a bands own fans bash them? Alright you hate Crush and Bounce and Have A Nice Day. So you think they should have retired after These Days etc.
Your opinions are fine, but don’t knock those who like those albums. Personally my favourite was These Days, but believe it or not, it is now Have A Nice Day. I’m not going to go into why, but to summarise, I think the lyrics are fantastic, I think the guitar-driven edge to every song is powerful and the message of the album really appeals to me. Having been originally from South Africa and arriving in the UK, it’s obvious that songs like Welcome to Wherever You Are and Who Says You Can’t Go Home will reflect on me – and this they do more than any U2, Oasis, Coldplay or any other band’s songs.
I can’t believe how you guys bash Bon Jovi. This is not because I like Have a Nice Day that I’m upset – you lot have been doing it ever since Crush was released. Well despite what you think or say, it was albums like Crush, Bounce and One Wild Night that took Bon Jovi past the 100 million mark. I liked every album Bon Jovi ever released and that’s not to sound that I’m a blind fan. For my part I feel Crush and Bounce weren’t their best offerings but it had great songs like It’s My Life, Just Older, Mystery Train, Undivided, Joey, The Distance – those are fantastic Bon Jovi songs that would stand up on any BJ album. With the attitude that you have, no matter what Bon Jovi release in the future you will already dislike it. If I told you before Have A Nice day was released that it will hardly feature ballads, have lots of guitar on every track etc, you would all say 'yes that's what we want.' And now?
I’ve listened to Have A Nice Day repeatedly and to date I find NOTHING wrong with it – but the heck with all of you – this is MY band and this is THEIR music that I love. I really cannot get over this negativity over anything the band does these days. Accept the fact that they will never make another Keep The Faith, These Days, New Jersey or Slippery When Wet and why would they? U2 can never make another Joshua Tree but you don’t hear their fans moaning and griping. Bon Jovi will always be making albums and no two will be alike. That's why they are still around today. They've never jumped on the bandwagon (this we all know). But I know that they are the one band that I can count on to pick me up when I feel down, be a soundtrack to the great times and fill in the romantic ambience when I’m with someone I care about. Am I the only Bon Jovi fan who feels this way? Surely I cannot be – this is not a Bon Jovi community but a Bon Jovi disharmony. You can say all you like (swear me, call me in denial etc) I wouldn’t care as I will not be visiting Dry County any more.
There’s plenty of Oasis, U2, Coldplay et al albums for the rest of you to hang on to.
I like U2 and Oasis, but Bon Jovi will always be my favourite band. But for those of you still so negative – think about this – you really do still care for Bon Jovi – why else are you still reading and still visiting this site?
To Peter and the team – thanks for a lovely site. It’s been a great source of joy but also negativity. I’d like to hang out in a Bon Jovi fan site where sharing your opinions is fine, but you don’t get bashed for it and neither does the band I love.
Oh, and just to rub it in for half of you out there – Have A Nice freaking Day
