PYROMANIA & HYSTERIA are like the most influential metal / hard rock albums ever!

(btw, DEF LEPPARD are the ONLY band other than The Beatles to sell more than 9 million copies of two albums back-to-back!)

you have a great vocalist Joe Elliot and many of the studio recordings make his voice sound like shit - like he's doped up on cough syrup...

(pour some sugar on me the prime example) - then when you see them live it's like another vocalist has taken over the band with super magical vocal powers - live he was out of this world...

even deep purple i feel messed up a lot of the studio recordings (scorpions also) by messing around with the vocal layers too much

that's why i like albums such as SWW and NJ - they still sound perfected in the studio but at the same time have a raw quality to them - in other words the type of sound that can be reproduced accurately live

didn't Appetite for Destruction come out in 1989? and i thought that Guns n Roses were somewhat credited for killing off the Hair Band craze (along with Nirvana) just like Kiss and Van Halen were credited for killing off Disco.

but the best hair band from the 80s was Poison

I think the production in DL albums are actually great (especially Hysteria). Granted, some people may be turned off by the polish and layerings (especially those who prefer raw rock - this is still available in the first 2 DL album and to a certain extent, Slang) but it's by no means 'terribly recorded'. It is in fact recorded flawlessly, and sometimes too flawlessly that it turns of fans of rawer sound.

Van Halen has some great songs (so do all of these bands). I haven't listened to them for a long time, I guess I should.
