Because half of it had already been released on a DVD or a b-side from a single or the Japanese remaster 2CD issue plus that when thinking they've got every single show in soundboard, they should be able to pick better versions, I can tell you a better version of every single song on that album.

I'm giving you examples of the pre OWN tour, since the recording of the Bounce tour would in no way have been on the OWN album.

1. It's My Life
This one is alright, this song has never sounded great though, it's never matched the studio version.

2. Livin' On A Prayer
March 3rd, 1987, Cincinnati, USA, or just any other good performance of the New Jersey or Slippery tour. This song was already released on the Crush tour DVD. This song is edited.

3. You Give Love A Bad Name
Same as Prayer and this song was already released on the Crush tour DVD too.

4. Keep The Faith
A version with Sympathy For The Devil plus jungle screams in it. The song on OWN is heavily edited.

5. Someday I'll Be Saturday Night
A good choice, though Argentina '95 was better.

6. Rockin' In The Free World
This one had already been released on the These Days CD Maxi single, plus the Japanese 2CD remaster from These Days.

7. Something To Believe In.
A good choice too, though Bon Jovi knows about every single fan has got the Yokohama bootleg which is in good soundboard quality available, so I'd rather had this song from another show.

8. Wanted Dead Or Alive
05.19.95 Tokyo. This version has got Little Wing, Stick To Your Guns and a small part of My Guitar Lies Bleeding In My Arms in the intro. It's way better.

9. Runaway
A good performance, though it had already appeared on several editions of the Lay Your Hands On Me single, plus the Japanese 2CD remaster of Bon Jovi.

10. In And Out Of Love
A good performance, though it had already appeared on the Japanese 2CD remaster of Fahrenheit. This song is very heavily edited on OWN, the original lasts 10 minutes.

11. I Don't Like Mondays
This song isn't even great, plus it had been released before on :
a) The Something For The Pain CD Maxi
b) The These Days Australian Tour Edition
c) The These Days European Limited 2CD Edition

12. Just Older
This song's alright, but it was the 3rd version of Just Older we got. There had been 2 other versions released, one on the Crush DVD and one on the Thank You For Loving Me CD single. Not this version though, but there isn't any difference between them.

13. Something For The Pain
They've played much more powerfull versions of this song, this wasn't the most powerfull. From the top of my head I don't know which one is. Plus the intro is faded in and not like it's supposed to be.

14. Bad Medicine
There are much better versions of this song around, and this song has appeared on the Crush DVD too. Other good versions are from the New Jersey tour.

15. One Wild Night 2001.
A studio track on a live album ?

This is about it all said from the top of my head. Maybe I'll upload all good versions sometime in the future for the file sharing forum. This should explain why OWN live is a terrible live album.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Yeah, what he said. They relied too heavily on two shows. They did a half-assed job of representing their career. If the idea was the span 20 years, they should have spanned 20 years. I would have put something like Roulette which was never a single, but was really great live from an early show. Perhaps Bad Name from Budokan in Japan. The live CD would have been a prime spot to release "Cadillac Man" which is an original song that they've performed live several times, but never released as a single. I would have gone with the Hammersmith Odeon version. They should have used something from Giants Stadium 1989 as it was such a momentus show. And how could they "span the career" and leave out the Moscow festival, the single most historic even they did! If they HAD to include convers, they could have used covers that had not already been released. If they had to release a song with a special guest, they could have released a different one... Elton John and Jimmy Page among others jammed with them at Hammersmith. How cool would a professional recording of that be?!

The thing that makes OWN suck isn't what it IS. It's what it COULD HAVE BEEN. The fact that fans can and have put together better compilations, even limiting them to one CD speaks of how poorly and quickly thrown together it was. The live CD was just a ploy to make a quick buck. The record company saw a resurgance of popularity and played on it with very little thought or effort going into the release.
