It'd be interesting to see what the results were if this were posted on a Sprinsteen message board.

Isn't it obvious?

Anyway I didn't vote. Not a Bruce fan. But it's actually quite interesting to read everybody's insights on Bruce's fanbase. Somehow it exactly suppots my opinion of his fans.

I'm starting getting into Bruce now, and his music is great. But I will always be a Jovi fan to the core. Oh, btw, this question might have been answered about a billion times, but what's the deal with Bruce and BJ? I mean, why is there this underlying tension? I'm just wondering.

I don't know that there is. I know Bruce fans were not happy at some of Jon's comments about The Rising but the man was just expressing an opinion that even some Bruce fans hold about the 9/11 stuff. Bruce and Jon did a benefit together, their kids go to school together, and I really don't think other than fan speculation there is much to that. Who knows? I laugh at the description of Bruce fans- yes, drunk middleaged and having a good time described a lot of them at the concert. I love Bruce- Bruce was the soundtrack of my teen through twenties years but I think the difference in boards is not so much age (at Backstage anyway we have lots of middleaged people) but the attitude. Bruce literally can do no wrong for some of these people- it is different than the Jon worship which can surface on Backstage. More like an attitude that Bruce and therefore they (and I only mean some) are superior in musical tastes and everything that has come after except for a select few artists liked by elitist music critics like U2 is c**p. There are friendly people there but saying you like Bon Jovi can make for a difficult time there, whereas saying you love Bruce here or at Backstage is no problem at all. Bon Jovi fans seem more tolerant and diverse. I myself besides the classic rock I grew up with love country music. Other Bon Jovi fans love groups like the Goo Goo Dolls and MB 20. Others love heavy metal. None of this seems to be a problem here. It seems like different age groups mix well- there are people on the Bon Jovi boards my kids' ages and some who are even older than I am but we are united in our love for Bon Jovi. So even though Bruce music is a big part of my life (I have to hear Bruce as much as Bon Jovi every day) I like the Bon Jovi fan community better.

Yes - you said it better than I - but it expresses exactly what I feel. As I said there is some worship of Jon at the Backstage board (which I am uncomfortable with) but there is an intellectual snobism among some Bruce fans which I really dislike. I truly appreciate the diversity of opinion and tolerance that is shown here.

I think the underlying tension is there because Bruce's fans think that he's really the best, I mean at least that is what I think. In my eyes everything this man touches become gold. And when some (the following is exaggerrated, don't be offended) "little tiny female teenage Bj-fans" come up and want to tell the whole world that Bj is better than Springsteen...at least I feel offended because it's so ridiculous...in my eyes of course. As I said before I can't think of anything where BJ is better than Bruce, with the E-Street band anyway but also without. Bruce has better songs, better lyrics, better live performances and ,last but not least the better attitude.
But all in all thats my opinion and I can't forbid anyone to have his/her own. the difference between People on this board and the people on Bruce's board (we should stop talking about fanbases because I think the visitors of fanpages don't represent the whole fan base of an artist) is that people here think "there's place for every taste" and on Bruce's board "there' place for every taste, BUT BRUCE IS THE BEST" and I think they're right because in my opinion when I try to be as objective as possible BJ can't stand any contest with Bruce Springsteen.

I love bith, but Bruce is very reflective and I can't say I'm always in the mood for that, Bon Jovi is just fun songs, not usually any deep and meanigful thoughts behind it, so they make me the happiest!!

Speaking of Bruce being reflective, anyone listen to him in interviews. He is constantly trying to be deep but just winds up talking in circles. The man gives me a headache with the way he tries to philosophize everything. He winds up making no sense half the time.

LOL, how true is that!! It's a shame though... although I don't think he could be as deep as his songs all the time, would drive you crazy..
