Comparing Bruce with Bon Jovi doesn't make any sense. Their mission in music is totally different.

Bon Jovi is a real rock band. They combine fun with good songs really well. Bruce's band is not a rock band. It's lilke a mini orchestra ot such.

And I personally can think of better than Bruce "smart" songwriters. Tom Waits, e.g., as it was mentioned before. What about Bob Dylan? What about Bob Seger? He is as good as Bruce. And he rocks just as much. The attitude that Bruce is the best ever from Bruce's fans amazes me. He is simply the luckiest to get all the press coverage he has gotten in his life. For a long time Bruce was the only famous musician from NJ. And he got lots of press coverage as the only NJ rock son. Then Jon and Bon Jovi happened. How dare they?

Talk about Bruce talking in circles the little "speech" he keeps insisting on giving at the summer concerts is a good example. He starts off saying how he loves all of his fans of all political persuasions then goes off on this wishy washy statement that kind of sounds anti-war but not enough to offend those of us Republican conservatives (talking about supporting the troops and all) sitting in the audience who he professes to love as much as the liberals like him
Why make a statement at all if you are really not going to say anything. The audience just sits there in puzzlement- what the heck did he mean. Just play the music I paid you to play
I think Bruce's lyrics are pure poetry but he is not the most articulate speaker I have ever heard in interviews. Jon comes across as more articulate and intelligent in spoken interviews- now whether he means what he says in them I will leave for more Drycounty debate

LOL - I was at 6 of the Giants concerts this summer and each night the folks around me were puzzled and sometimes irritated by this non-statement. Shut up and play was one of the kinder comments I heard.

I wonder if Bruce even knows what he is saying half of the time. He talks in circles.

the man suffers from acute shyness, its a well documented fact; ergo public speeches can be rather daunting
