I think that the reason is both but it changed during time.
At first it was love because they didn't know they were going to be so famous. Then they surely wanted money. Then it was love until these days. Now looking at the crap they are releasing it surely isn't love.

See, that seems backwards to me. When they first started they NEEDED money a lot more than they do now. I love what I do, but I wouldn't do it for free. Now they don't need the money and don't HAVE to tour or make records or do anything. They can live off the interest of what they've made. I can't say what motivates them, but I think it's a bit like looking through rose-colored glasses to say they started out only for the love of music or assume that it's love of money now. They just got lucky and found a job doing something they love to do.

You're probably right but.. When I say money I'm talking about MONEY the kind of money they make now so as they didn't know they would get so big they couldn't be doing it for the MONEY.. probably the money as u said is right but not the MONEY :P

I think I covered this in a few other posts this evening , but I feel in the very beginning money might have been somewhat a factor fame second and then the passion of making music. I do fell Richie as a whole prefers the music and it passionate about his music and what he does ...EVEN if money is involoved HE loves his music.
Jon however is in it at this point for the dollar signs and I feel he really knows hes got that middleaged overweight fan base who will follow there hero like three blind mice. Im not saying all his fans are THIS but Ill say 80 percent are these woman . i saw this again at Nokia Theatre ..and it was downright awful to see and hear them. I pity there foolish husbands for staying with them , Im engaged myself for 2 years , and dont act this way . While I lvoe there music Im not in it for Jons body or his pouty grin and tight butt ...as they all are . I might be in the minority but I truly just love goin with my fiance to see them just to have a good time and hear wonderful music .

I feel with the last few outings ...box set TLFR etc ..it was a great marketing ploy almost equalled to the likes of Madonna . They are very smart and realize they gonna make hay while the sun shines . I thinkafter this tour were gonna see some major changes in the camp and Im hoping for some ...
Im really ready to skip with my picallo .....

Another motive is fame, I think Jon has this urge for fame. And that motivates him.
I'm really holding back and biting my tounge as to this statement but I cannot beleive someone would say that. Lately we've been getting a new release a year. They're constantly putting stuff out. Love it or hate it, the box set WAS for the fans. I sure as hell am getting what I want. They treat us just fine. It's the fans that don't know how good they have it.

How shallow and judgemental! People don't pay $100 per ticket to go look at someone's ass from half a mile away in an arena. If you really think that's what fans are like, you're a musical snob. And I suppose it's only Jon's fans who comment on his looks. You never hear anything about how Richie is tall, dark, and handsome? Come on! Women lust after both of them. But lust doesn't sell records and concert tickets for 20 years. I personally wouldn't go to a concert from any artist if I didn't like their music and with concert tickets as expensive as they are, I think anyone who would go to a concert for "looks" would realize that they'd get a better deal for the money if they stayed home and looked at some photos or watched a DVD. Well, unless they have that IQ of a throw rug you keep talking about.

What do you want? Their blood? The box set was EXACTLY what fans asked for--demos. And they didn't even put the demos that were circulating in fandom illegally for 15+ years, but ones they knew fans had not heard before!

Here here! The box set was put together so nicely. If it's not fans complaining about it having too many songs we know, it's fans complaining that there isn't any songs they WANT on it? yeesh.

Of course for the money, it's their job and not their hobby.

They are fortunate enough to have a job where they can combine hobby and job though. But making records is only for money since they are made for selling, for nothing else.

I dont think they need the money anymore...perhaps they are not all in love with the music like they used to be... still they reckon theres nothing like standing in front of thousands feeling..... maybe its to do with commitment now or just basic familiarity...
