Thats exactly the response I expected....thats why I wrote that those issues are only 'traditionally' seen as been gender specific....nowadays, as you say, women are likely to be driven by those concerns...and men are supposed to be in touch with their sensitive side....so the notion that a song like Dry County is a guy song is therefore flawed and outdated...glad to see You Had Me From Hello makes you gag....Maybe Someday on the other hand, brings a tear to my eye everytime...maybe I aint the man I thought i was afterall...

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the song Dry County. Obviously all BJ songs are written from the male perspective but that doesn't make them any less relatable to me as a female fan.

(cue me on the big screen) JBJ: "How good have you been? Oh My God!" (laughs, more teasing) JBJ: "You want it huh, you want it huh? Blood on Blood just for you, the good girl in the front row? The all request hour, the girl in the front row has just asked for Blood on Blood, ok, Merry Christmas young lady!" Amazing <3

This is specific to the male disposition and his struggle to make ends meet, so to that end, its a guy song ....but most of the ballads are from a male perspective aswell - The difference is that a song like Dry County deals specifically with traditionally masculine issues such as money, working, supporting your family, doing what a guys gotta do, wheras the ballads are all about love, feelings, romance and roses - traditionally female concerns.

Whether this affects your opinion of a song is down to how traditional a guy or gal you are....I'm an alpha male. Thats why I love Dry County and hate You Had me from Hello.

I think you nailed it. All Bon Jovi songs are of course written from the male perspective, yes. But it seems like some fans like to label them anyway, or claim that, in this example for instance, Dry County primarily appeals to men. Or Bed Of Roses generally appeals to women, as I've also heard.
I was merely trying to point out that it's personal opinion whether or not you like something, and in a way degrading to a great song like this to say men like it more, or maybe understand it better. A good song is a good song, and should be understood universally. All human emotions are shared, regardless of race, gender, locale or background. That's really all a song is, anyway. Depiction of an emotion. So we should all be able to feel it, if in even the slightest way it applies to a situation we've been in.

I just meant it would be much more obvious to pinpoint Misunderstood as a song guys can feel with, because it's unlikely for women to end up in situations like those described in the lyrics. Whereas, in this day and age, and even in 1992 when DC was written, it's just as common for women to have to deal with money, family, and responsibilities as it is for men.
Which brings it down more to subject matter than what a song is musically, really.

Yeah, girls never say the wrong thing, or stay out late with friends.

Good thinking.

No, but most guys don't have the balls to tell a girl to sleep on the couch when they're mad.
Unless you happen to have personal experience that says contrary.

Nope - it might happen once but that would be the only time To be fair - I've never kicked my husband to the couch in 38 years of marriage either.

And written from the male perspective, which kills the "female concerns" thing. It may make it easier for you to swallow by thinking Jon or Richie (I'll Be There For You) would write a song just to "pander to the chicks" but sorry, it just doesn't work that way.

I do think a song like "You Had Me From Hello" panders....but so does any number of their rock songs. It's an example of a crafted song. Songs like Silent Night, Only Lonely, and Hardest Part is the Night...just to go back to when Jon was in his early 20s...came out of his heartbreak during the break up with Dorothea.

Male and love Dry County.
