Since I have recorded this band for years, I can attest to the fact that the first 4 or 5 songs are louder than the rest of the concert. You can see the volume in wave editing programs. The show I am using as an example was the last one recorded - the makeup Mohegan Sun show 2013-10-25.

The first 5 songs were as follows:

Lost Highway
That's What The Water Made Me
You Give Love A Bad Name
Born To Be My Baby
Radio Saved My Life <--at this point the volume started dropping slightly

I don't think loud = good. In fact, I often find that loud = distorted and I have to stuff cotton in my ears to make the distortion go away so that I can understand the words better. That's not just Bon Jovi shows, but any concert/musical or even some movies. Maybe there's something wrong with my hearing.

That's interesting. Maybe there is a difference between outdoor and indoor shows, but I've only experienced that they raised the volume during BJ shows - or kept it at the same level from start to finish. But I've only seen them outdoors. Two shows where I can remember the volume being raised during the show were Mannheim 2011 and Munich 2013.

I can check an outdoor show but I have been noticing this for years with Jovi. I usually fix the sound when I remaster the files so people wouldn't see it if they downloaded a show from me.

This is all the more interesting, since usually during the first 3-5 songs, there are press photographers under the stage. Thanks Kathleen, I have to pay attention to it next time

Couldn't agree more. I appreciate some people don't want it too loud but it's a rock gig not a children's pantomime! The energy is definitely affected by low volume.

I wouldn't want it Judas Priest loud. That level was ridiculous.

That's interesting. Why would that be the case?
