The talkbox is Richie's signature and he has a way of making it sound "cool" by giving it growls and using it behind all the other guitar tracks. The Bounce record had Right Side Of Wrong which had the 2nd longest solo(behind Next 100 Years) of any of the songs on the post-2000 records. Everything else on Bounce fit perfectly and on the heavy tunes there wasn't a need for any long solo's, although I would have preffered Richie to have recorded what he did live on the bounce tour at the end of the distance. Use them only if they provide substance to the song that's what I say.

I am really tired of that big band thing. Am I the only one?
The violin I can take or leave but I think the band have a meatier more powerful sound on a lot of the songs when Bobby plays rhythm. Listen to I,d die for you for instance in the 80s compared to the last tours and there is a big difference.

When you get an unfelt solo you get an It's My Life solo
Now but THAT was a good one I think. Of course not the emotional kind of solo you are talking about, but it's just cool... simple and absolutely does the trick. I love it. Sometimes less is more. I'm still a fan of extended solos that never end, or more guitar work during songs... it really wouldn't hurt, guys...

I prefer the solo in Make A Memory to be honest, and that's like 3 seconds long :/

Oh well Simon, it was bound to happen at some point, that we wouldn't agree on something

Why not just leave it out altogether, or try some other kind of bridge ... Last Cigarette's vocal breakdown comes to mind, or Homebound Train's instrumental freak out. No song is improved by 10 seconds of repeated chords for no reason
This made me lol. Probably because it's so very true.

True, he hates those bands.
As far as i'm concerned... AC/DC & Van Halen are so different. I tend to like ACDC better, although they've been playing the same stuff for 100 years now. Black Ice is a good album, but could have well been released in the 90 ies. I dig it anyway.

ACDC (instead of Jovi) don't have PRE and POST 2000 albums
