Good read - especially since it supports what I always thought I knew about music types and heritage.

I grew up in the 60's and we learned NOT to judge a book by its cover. I didn't care how much hair the 80's bands had - or how they dressed - I just loved the music.

Bon Jovi's music was heavily influenced by Southside Johnny - still is as far as I can hear. I wouldn't call that hairband music.

I tend to be a fan of band's I like, and don't go by genre. I love several 80's "hairbands", but there are some I don't like. I'm not a fan of most "grunge" music, but I think Dave Grohl is a musical genius, and I also happen to love Pearl Jam. It's all a question of taste IMO. In any case, what that article really foes to show is that, in the long run, critics don't mean shit. Good songs and emotionally effective music (Whether it's "serious" or "party songs") will survive and be found by kids years later.

Hair metal bands may have had massive hair, Motley Crue may have dressed like hot he-she prostitutes BUT AT LEAST NO ONE IN HAIR METAL HAD DANDRUFF.

Unlike Kurt Cobain.

And y'know how I know Kurt Cobain had dandruff?

Cos I found his head & shoulders behind the couch.

I think they're more like a transition...

Aloha !

Grunge was merely about making as much noise as possible while telling everyone the world was shit or whatever other statement they wanted to make.

Hair bands were just fun and often contained good vocals and good musicianship, both things any Grunge band lacked.

Some of the emotion Kurt had might've been honest and real (as can be read in Diaries) but he was only capable of delivering it thru wank lyrics because he himself admitted that he was unable to write proper lyrics himself.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan
