For a start HAND sounds nothing like AA, secondly Green Day are entirely overrated anyway. who actually bought a Green day album before their last one (when they went commercial) because I certainly didn't. Green Day were'nt as big as they are now until this album. ermmmm, why? Let me think, O yea, they started to appeal to 13 yo girls.

I did. For the record, Green Day didn't go commercial with AI, but loooong before that. I think Dookie was the one that brought GD the commercial success.

Of course, you might be a bit too young to remember that as it was about 12 years ago

If you think GD are overrated, you clearly don't know GD

Except for the VERY beginning, Green Day has always been the perfect pop/punk band.... nothing new here.

I saw GD OPEN for Blink 182. They blew Blink through the roof, but this was about 3 years ago.

I agree with others now though. The recognition they are receiving for American Idiot seems a bit much. There's nothing mind blowing about the album.

Sure, American idiot is poppy. But unlike some other poppy shit discussed in this board, GD is catchy and well put together stuff, instead of living their live in every****ingsong.
****ing thank you...

Funny that when a band has success they are suddenly tagged "commercial", wether or not they change style. What band that actually releases an album to stores isn't commercial anyway?

The America Idiot album material is not anymore commercial that the Dookie or Warning albums were. They've always had a pop side. Their style on AI is actually more like when they started than it was on Warning.

I bet if this album hadn't been as successful as it is it would be a favourite. It's so "cool" to bash what succeeds and sound like an underground music expert.

Whether you think its punk or not, I don't see how you can argue that its not a fiendishly creative album

About 20 million people did. Heck, Dookie alone sold over 10 million copies, and Time Of Your Life was quite a hit as well.

WTF? Was it a festival or an actual tour?

Wow that is a stretch for me. I don't think the two songs sound anything alike.
I've got to agree that GD's album is nothing earth shattering and has gotten way too much praise. It's a good record but there isn't anything brilliantly new on it, and if I hear the September song one more time....... Dookie wa brilliant because at the time it was something fresh and different sounding, now they are just another former "punk" ideals band who has traded in their values for cash.

The differnce between them and BJ is that Bj was always a commercial band never claimed to be anything else, GD did.

I'm a big Green Day fan, but I'm not wild about American Idiot. The first half is excellent, but it tails off dramatically in the second. I'd take HAND over it any day.

Worst thing about the album in my view was the video to Wake Me Up When September Ends. Least punk thing I've ever seen, it was just appalling. I can't imagine what they were thinking.
