Doing those screams towards the end night after night would kill anyone's voice, my word!

It kills my ears how much Richie's backing vocals were soaked in that chorus effect back then.

As I have related before - it was Jon's voice, coming out of my son's bedroom in 1988 that attracted me. Frankly I think I always liked Bruce's music better (most people here know what a big Springsteen fan I am). But it was Jon's voice and Jon and Richie's acoustic harmonizing that sucked me in. To this day there are hints of Jon's old voice but only in the lower ranges. He has lost the soaring highs that were so beautiful.

This actually brought a tear to my eye because you realise the band we have lost.
You see nothing like this intensity anymore. They are just going through the motions.

Agreed. They've lost the passion.

There were definite hints of the passion coming back at the Sydney arena show, I can tell you. Something changed in the intensity from the Saturday night to the Sunday night. After telling the audience "Get up out of your seats, this is master class, motherf*ckers!", Jon seemed totally pumped. Obviously he doesn't sound like he did when he was in his twenties - but the guy showed signs that when he wants to, he can up his game. The problem is when they tour, you just never know what Jon you're going to get.

Holy shit. Dem screams.

That'll never happen again obviously.

But he managed to get his voice back up to a pretty good level circa 2008 after years of decline and most of us saying he'd never sound any good again -- why the **** couldn't he keep it up, and can he get back there again?

Somehow I only heard these strange ****in' effects on that live show. There are tons of other recordings floating around from the same tour where his voice sounds normal without any strange effects being added.
