yup. and all of them done more in music than most people could ever dream of regardless of whether it was through pop idol or not.

i know michelle mcmanus' sister and i'd gladly "sell out" to make the kind of money she says michelle made in a year as a result of pop idol.

if anything I think by going on AI it has shown how difficult it is to sing Jovi songs and given them more credibility.

The idol shows always feature people using jovi songs to audition so why shouldnt jovi go on there and show them how to sing them...

Or maybe it was before that--back when Jon first smiled for a camera. Then they started writing songs for crappy acts like CHER and LOVERBOY. I mean.... ewwww. They're not rock and roll. And THEN.... Jon had the damn audacity to go and write a song for a soundtrack and get himself on the Oscars. Rock guys don't do the Academy Awards. After that, he cut his hair. OMG. You can't be a rock star without long hair! Keep the Faith? What kind of title is that? They should have called that comeback CD: I'll Kick Your Mother****ing Ass. Now THAT would have been cool rock and roll. After that, they put an accordian in a song. Then they went off and did more solo projects. Jon and Richie and Dave have all been in movies. Sell outs. They tried marketing themselves by setting up webcams in the studio. That's selling out, right? QVC? (Yeah, okay, no sarcasm in those three letters). Gone country?

Point is... if Bon Jovi "sold out" whatever that means to you, they did it long before American Idol.

This is the music BUSINESS. Having 9 songs in the itunes Top 100 and a a top 10 CD based on presales shows that being on AI was a good business move. People ought to be glad that Bon Jovi are smart enough to market themselves. If they weren't, they wouldn't be selling out that new arena in a minute or playing 10 nights in New Jersey this fall.

Your post made me laugh. Especially the title they should have used for Keep The Faith!

right you're all big enough fans to have signed up to an unofficial Bon Jovi web site. So why I come on here and find people slagging/dissing the band I'll never know! this site shouls be full of praise for the band.

However, I see your point. I am constantly challenged by people as to why i love BJ so much, and no, the band/Jon dont make it very easy. Last Man Standing - American Idol! I can see why it don't make sense.

But maybe jon bein so down on the industry these days sees the programme as a medium where people can reach an audience and have a shot?! You know alot of these people want to make it so bad and if this is their avenue then let them have there shot.

Actually I became a fan in 1985 and saw them for the first time on the 7800 tour. Their songs have changed (for the better or worse depending on your taste) because they've changed. I actually loved HAND and don't feel it was Bounce part 2 at all. I actually still consider them very much a rock band. And the HAND tour was the #3 tour in the US for 2006, so obviously there are still a lot of folks forking over the cash to see them. Hull was one bad show, you can't base the entire tour on that show.

Hull was a show when Richie found out about his father...

Who cares? Apparently some people do. When i was younger in school i was constantly asked how i could like Bon Jovi, the ''sellouts'' etc, a pop band etc etc

But seriously, I couldnt give a flying duck what people think as they are my favourite band and i like the music. As for ''selling out'' - ehh Bon Jovi 'sold out' the monent they formed. Theyv always been a comercial rock band, and played the music business well - as illustrated by the AI thing. Sure, they wanted to promote their new single on perhaps the biggest US TV show there is at the moment (who wouldnt), and in return all they had to do was tutor a few kids on how to sing their songs. They would of been mad not to do it.

What next, we see Jon buying a latte in Starbucks and accuse him of selling out?

Its all about the music people, and (for the most part) the band are still making great music that i enjoy. End of story!

JBJ - I believe

"Sambora's face is a mask of joyous disbelief, as if previously unaware of his ability to play the instrument at all. Reaching the last fistful of notes, he does a fair impression of a man who is actually ejaculating into his jet black flares."

I am a longtime fan of rock music - way before Bon Jovi came along. Led Zeppelin are still one of my favorite bands so I know what rock music is. Bon Jovi might have been lumped in with Van Halen and the Scorpions at the time but they never actually played the same type of music. I've said this a million times here but "Ooo - She's a little Runaway" was not exactly metel music at the time either. Neither was "Born to Be By Baby". These are both good songs but they are far more pop music (for want of a better label) than head banging music.

I remember them very well and I liked them then - and I like them now. They HAVE changed but they are in their 40's and 50's now - not their 20's. They still make awesome music. I think it's good that they are comfortable enough in their own skin that they are not trying to act 25 anymore either.

Becky, that's one of the best posts I've read in weeks!!!! Seriously, when wasn't BJ commercial??? I've been a fan since forever and I don't remember a time.

I guess it depends on your definition of selling out. To me selling out would be to start rapping or choreographing dance moves on stage, chasing whatever five minute fad is going on, not choosing to debut a new single to 30 or 40 million people on tv.

you know what is interesting, nikki sixx from motley crue was once asked to be on one of these show and he said he'd rather support up and coming bands who are doing it right. going to see crue in june and last time i saw them they blew jovi away live, complelty, carnival of sins was rock at its best. sorry guys but did u all know that bon jovi is a limited company with jon as boss, (star man, right hand man of rock, micheale francis if u dont belive me, this man toured with the band for over ten years as security only to be dropped when jon decided) so hull was maybe jon pulling rank, either way it all sounds a bit corparate and i for one will be at crue, cheering on a band who know what is real !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

for those who wonder. micheal francis was the bodyguard for the band for a lot of years, he knows much more than he's telling, groupies etc. read his book and tell me, jon is stil a saint. cos he isnt. urban dictorany even have an entry called 'doing a dorothea' which means; ugly bird with good lookin guy who doest mind if he cheats" not my words but the whole bon jovi thing is starting to feel more like goodfellas' than the movie.
