Yeah, i dont see where theyr going with this either. If 20,000 tickets were snapped up by touts, and 20,000 Bon Jovi fans turn up at the gig having bought from these touts - thats still 20,000 bon jovi fans regardless. It would sell out whether or not touts were involved.

And wtf is with all the motley crue comparisons? they arent even in the same league, and are pretty awful live. Bon Jovi are one of the only bands from that era still to consistently sell out large arenas and stadiums today.

JBJ - I believe

"Sambora's face is a mask of joyous disbelief, as if previously unaware of his ability to play the instrument at all. Reaching the last fistful of notes, he does a fair impression of a man who is actually ejaculating into his jet black flares."

Forgive me if I go back on topic for a minute ....

I honestly reckon that Jon remembers that 25 years ago he managed to get a break because some people did him some favours.

I don't necesarily agree with the Idol "instant star" aesthetic, but in the music industry today its really as viable an entry point as any other. Plus, I don't think anyone here, if given the chance to fast track to their dream job would say no because they disagree with it on principle ...

"Selling out" is a rubbish term anyway, something that lazy journo types use. You can't win a game if you refuse to play it

I've already posted in this thread but I have been continuing to think about this charge of "selling out". Is there a difference between selling and selling out? All musicians want their music to reach people - most people don't play music in a vacuum. The usual method of reaching people is selling records or live shows via advertising. If your records don't sell well - you get dropped by your record company - and then you don't reach people. If people don't know about you - they aren't going to buy your records. So advertising becomes a big part of the record business. What Jon and the band did on American Idol was advertise themselves and a new piece of music; and at the same time showcase some of their earlier music. When looked at in this light it is an excellent strategy for their survival. Make no mistake that the music business is a business first and last.

From what I have heard about the numbers of downloads of old songs they did themselves a big favor.

They sold out long ago. Which doesn't bother me as long as they keep churning out great materials like Blood On Blood, In These Arms, These Days, Just Older, Have A Nice Day. Unfortunately, sometimes they come up with turds like Make A Memory.

They've always been sellouts and have been very commercialized. I don't think they would have survived this long if they didn't sellout. BOn Jovi wouldn't have sold their 120 million albums (that number is up for debate) if they didn't sellout.

the great irony of selli9ng out is that the bands you see gigging that talk about never selling out tend to be the ones who'll never be in a position to be able to sell out because they're so bad.

Absolutely and those same bands would trade places with Bon Jovi any day of the week.
