"Maybe I'm wrong but for me it seems to be that he changed his way of singing to a ,IMO, worse way: I think he sings in a more nasal way...

I agree. Luckily he doesn't sing quite that way on the recordings.

And as far as Jon being in pain in the 80's, we've all heard the throat stories. Now we see what we what to see - afterall, hindsight is twenty-twenty.

I think Jon's definetely improved. It's kinda hard NOT to improve when you have an actual vocal coach. And it still boggles my mind when people say Jon sang better in the 80's. No offense to Jon at all- but that was singing from his throat and the wrong way completely. He's much more full now and has such a greater range. Listen to the incredible maturity Jon's gone through between Livin On a Prayer and Prayer 94.
He can still hit those high notes of course, but you're not necessarily going to hear it while the band is on tour all the time. It's a little harder to be in control 100% when you're in front of an audience and got so many other things on your mind, so why risk it? He runs around and sings at the same time, as opposed to singers who must hit every difficult note and simply stand there. Jon would rather interact with the audience for a 2.5 hours than have people applaud his singing capability. He saves his voice so that you can enjoy it in its fullest later on albums and other more formal things.
Like Becky said, I'm surprised Jon's voice has only gotten better because of his smoking habit. I would've thought it would get huskier and raspy like Tom Waits, LOL. Jon obviously works hard to perfect his voice, so he couldn't have gotten worse.

Jon's voice sounds great. I find it hard to believe people think he sounded better in the 80's. He sounded like he was in pain on the SWW tour... oh, yeah, he WAS in pain on the SWW tour. He has much better control of his voice now and he sounds stronger and better than ever. I admit I was surprised his voice improved because he started smoking, but it has.
Well when i talk about the quality of a voice, i talk just about the studio recordings and i think the vocals on the 80ies records sound better then on Crush and Bounce. I think they were clearer and stronger at that time.
You're right about the live-performances they sound better in the 90ies, but I like the recordings from the SWW tour too. sure he couldn't sing as good as e.g. on the TD-tour but i like this roughness his voice had when he was in pain.

Jon ruins some songs by not singing them as high as they should be. He has changed Saturday Night, Blaze of Glory, Always and In These Arms. Just listen to Saturday Night on the Crush Tour DVD (and live from Osaka CD); it sounds like it is being played on a walkman with the batteries going flat, the chorus is sang much too low. The Chorus to In These Arms is sung an octave lower now, it sounds like it is a chore for him to sing it. None of these songs require him to scream the 'high' notes, but Jon choosing not to sing them leaves the songs sounding flat. His voice was the best during the These Days era, with Wembley one of his best performances (especially Saturday Night).

Anyone who says that Jons voice is now better than ever is either Becky, or someone else, who thinks he can do no wrong.

And krb knows this because he's psychic.. (and Canadian! I heard it was tradition there to peirce your nipple(s).. Is this true? A canadian told this to me. )

"Anyone who says that Jons voice is now better than ever is either Becky, or someone else who thinks he can do no wrong."

Can you back this up? I think not.
Who thinks he can do no wrong? Becky? Can you back this up as well? She admires Jon...as Sambo-Chris admires Richie. Do they think they can do no wrong? I think they believe in how human they are and how much wrong they can do..

But unlike you, they, and Becky specifically (since this is about Becky)..like to point out good qualities, decisions, and things that people do. You, however, are constantly knocking Jon. Are you jealous? Oh wait..no..you do this because you "like to start controversy" and blah blah blah blah blah blah blah .. blah. Funny how you don't point out the bad qualities you find in Richie, Dave, and Tico. Oh, wait, do you not see any bad qualities in them? No? Wow. So you think that THEY can do wrong, making you just as shallow as Becky and many other fans (as you are hinting toward)

I can be low like you sometimes. It's hard to believe people defend you so much. Some of the moderators do it all the time, but when we strike back at you, a lot of the time, the post is deleted or something.

I guess a lot of you have read this before. Oh well, read it again.

I was watchin Rob Roy earlier (Anyone seen this??) - It ends off with a good old fashioned duel (with swords). I think u two (Captain Crash & krb102) could do with something like this

Just for the record:

This is not true & krb102 has had his fair share of reprimands. In fact, if u ever meet him you'll find a ball & chain attached to his right leg

Really? I'll ask a Canadian when I see one. (There aren't that many in Toronto)

I can knock Richie too if I try. Maybe he isn't as good as he used to be, not as fast, he always does the same thing in his solos now, the fast riff that he always plays is always the same....

I can also knock Tico, he has gone from a drummer, to a percussionist.

You like me really, I know you do.

Maybe I am a moderator, who has signed up with another username.

And my points about Jon's voice were correct. Also, if you read my post, I didn't actually state that Becky thinks Jon can do no wrong.

What an interesting theory! Rach, Ryan, Jonny's Girl and Captain_Crash are all ME!

If I thought these guys did no wrong, I probably wouldn't complain about the ever present awful sounding Bad Name in concerts; the sorry representation of the band's work on the live CD; and would blindly vote Democrat because of Jon and Richie's open Democratic ties instead of thinking for myself.

Thank you for noticing.
