Oh, I've just discovered what the phrase "French kiss the morning" actually means! So many people bashed the lyrics to BOR and there were/are so many interpretations that my head is spinning. But this is gold

french kiss the morning
French kiss the morning is a phrase referring to the first large, gaping, tongue lolling yawn given by a person (or animal) after waking.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/defin...0the%20morning

is it that simple?

Some other theories (from Topix)

'French kiss the morning means to vomit and puke with tounge out of mouth!'

'Have you even drank too much and woke up in the morning with a dry mouth? You feel like sh1t, Get the picture!!!!!'

'He himself is the blonde that gave him nightmares to me, the stage man of bon jovi, and what he does when hes drunk. "she" is still in the bed as hes sobered upa nd left that eprson behind in his bed

in terms of the iron clad fist line, the rumour is that jon woke up hungover and wrote it in his hotel room. i think the iron clad fist french kissed the morning interprets to that he feels rough and doesnt want to do anything but he gets up and writes a love song (bed of roses) with heavy, hungover hands on the piano keys'

'It means he is yawning, hugely with his mouth gapping wide open and his tongue hanging out. "I wake up and yawn" is not romantic or poetic in any way, but using allegorical language to say the same thing, is. I'd yawn that big in the morning too if I wasn't getting enough sleep because I was wishing to sleep next to someone and missing them.'

***

Love the various intepretations to the lyrics and Bed of Roses was just an example. I wanted to find the right thread but there are only the newest ones referring to THINFS :/

It just seems to me that, based on the interviews, Jon intended to do that and that might explain why the solo songs were included in the deluxe editions.

Your 'maybes' make sense though, so the idea could have been scrapped for any of those reasons.
True enough!

That's actually really cool. I've always thought that line was dumb as hell but now I kinda like it.

Update: As I continue through the collection I finished TC and 5 GH tracks... Not bad... very manufactured but listenable... Passionless but listenable... okay moving on...

Listening to LH and found nothing pleasurable on this album...Okay, Memory is Brilliant and then it's a sinking ship... definitely my least favorite in the collection... Walk Like A Man is a far second and maybe Any Other Day is third...

The one track that defined this period for me is Hallelujah... Jon owns this cover like he did Boys Are Back In Town and if there is ever an extended edition, the one live studio recording needs to be on it...

Moving on to HAND now...

Update 2: Finished HAND and TLFR

HAND wasn't as enjoyable as I remember it being... It's been a while since I listened to the studio album in full. Since Shanks came on-board, I usually listen to the live stuff more... IMO HAND is TC's younger sibling... Some songs are better and some are not. "Nothing" is absolutely fantastic and was very refreshing. I thought this song was overrated at one point and actually still do to a point but it is an excellent song and should have made the final cut. Listening back 12 years now, I still think BB and THINFS is some of the best stuff thus far. So overall HAND is a good solid album but far from great.

There is not much to say about TLFR. There are a few songs that are pretty good and work well with the new arrangements and some that don't. If Jon released some of the good ones as b-sides or something like that, it wouldn't be as bad... An entire album of slowed down hits with the drum machine sounds are cringe-worthy...Last Man Standing and Thief Of Hearts are just okay... The only positive is Sylvia's Mother and The Production. Jon should start producing his own songs again... One other point... I recently listened to Strum As You Are and the vocals are terrible. I totally get why this project got scrapped... So much note dodging... Maybe some overdubs could have still saved it but this is a project that should have been done 15 years prior...

Note: I actually broke the Box Set up the best I could to go with each intended album... Most songs are from Crush, Sex Sells, and DA of which I did my best to split that up... Between Bounce, Crush, Sex Sells, and DA there is a lot of music to listen to but just for this this thread, I will mainly focus on the album tracks...On to Bounce

Hmm, I'm beginning to think I'll have to do the same. I always absolutely loved LH and probably still will - The Last Night, Til We Ain't Strangers Anymore, Any Other Day, Walk Like A Man, etc. are such fantastic songs in my book. But ok, I wanted to ask something else:

What is this Strum As You Are you're talking about? Never heard of anything like that and couldn't find anything on Google...

I'm sorry...Prior to the release of TLFR, the band was going release an acoustic album of hits... and some covers... This is where Hero's and The Joker came from... it was to be titled Strum As You Are... It was record in Japan and then scrapped... Because Japanese bootlegs are the best, it eventually surfaced in A+ quality... Some of the music was released as Bsides too...
It was a lot of material...Multiple takes too... 3 discs worth of material actually... I'm sure it's on YouTube... I'm on my phone now so I can't search but I'll look later for you...

Was it ever confirmed that was going to be the title of the live release? For some reason I have it in my head that was the working title for TLFR which didn't enter the picture until they heard how they sounded on this. After that I know they did some recordings of the songs straight up just acoustic in I think Amsterdam?

Pretty much where I am on HAND - loved the single and couldnt wait for the album - got it (about a fortnight before it was released as I worked at Universal) and was like - yuk - apart from DLS and Unbreakable - If you had 12 songs of these type of songs on an album and you are talking a real great record. Too much filler on this album. LMS isnt too bad.

You deserve a medal if you listened to TLFR all the way through. Just muck. Pure muck. On the DVD loved Sylvias mother and DOA but that was about it.
