First of all, I had to listen to Novocaine again because I forgot how the whole song went. It now has 3 plays on my itunes play count.

Sure the lyrics to Novocaine are good, but the rest of the song is typical recycled Bon Jovi. No special Sambora guitar, no special vocals, and the song structure is cookie cutter with the same cliche rhymes that you see in most post 2000 Bon Jovi songs. (ropes of hope..., do the crime do the time)

And the backing vocals sound like those of a boy band.

/rant over.

I have a question but I want to make sure I phrase it properly. The general consensus is the original version of HAND, the song, has a more raw rock feel to it. I'm wondering....does it? From what I understand, the album leaked and whomever made copies and distributed it online, it isn't actually CD quality.

The entire album isn't as smooth and I wonder if that's how it was intended or is it because that's how it was bootlegged. For my money HAND, the song, is the same on the finished album. The backing "ohhhhs" aren't there, the chorus is different and blah blah a few minor changes here and there, but I can't tell if the rest is any different because the quality of the bootleg isn't as crisp as the released version. The song might not be as raw as everyone thinks it is. Thoughts?

I think much of what we hear as "harder edged" is because of the distortion that was probably added to the recording on purpose to not give away the real thing.
It's probably mixed slightly different (louder talk-box and organ for example) ... but I can't hear that much of a difference, either.

Edit: Listening again I recognize the guitars seem a lot more defined on the 2004 version, while the actual album version they were flattened down quite obviously to make it sound more radio-friendly. So yeah, I think the mix was indeed heavier in general.
But anyway I only have MP3s of the Pre-release so my view may be completely wrong

I only have mp3s as well. It's not something we'll ever know short of tracking down who leaked it or comparing the masters, neither of which are feasible. I just know the whole album sounds harder edged, not just the title track, and I doubt it was the bands intention for Bells to sound so rough and spikey.

Novocaine is one of my favourites from HAND.
I donīt understand either how a needle could actually run through someoneīs veins But I still love the song

Apart from HAND (which I think is one of the greatest Bon Jovi live songs) and Bells of Freedom , the rest is shit (IMO)

Best album since KTF (excluding the GHs of course).

real piss poor effort. I call it the lazy album.

HAND (the song) is great then the album really lulls for me from tracks 3 until I Am - which is ok - the album lulls again until the two bonus tracks.

LMS is only decent songs from 3-8

The line "God makes no mistakes" in WTWYA brings sick to my mouth.

On a par with how average Crush was.

1. Have A Nice Day 8/10
2. I Want To Be Loved 7/10
3. Welcome To Wherever You Are 1/10
4. Who Says You Can't Go Home 0/10
5. Last Man Standing 7/10
6. Bells Of Freedom 3/10
7. Wildflower 0/10
8. Last Cigarette 2/10
9. I Am 7/10
10. Complicated 8/10
11. Novocaine 6/10
12. Story Of My Life 6/10
13. Dirty Little Secret 8.5/10
14. Unbreakable 8/10
