Oh, I agree. There are exceptions. It's just that the daft lyrics outnumber the stuff that's actually got something to offer for people older than 12.

They're not maturing. If there's anything Bon Jovi aren't doing the past 10 years it's maturing. This Ain't A Love Song isn't a boy meets girl ballad yet it works really well. All this bullsh1t about Bon Jovi evolving and maturing is just a bunch of nonsense. They're completely dead and have been rehashing the same stuff over and over again and their lyrics get more silly and dumbed down with every release.

Nah you're way off and I'm completely with Devilsson. The only time the band have tried to sound younger than their years was Have A Nice Day. Lyrically they were about right for their age, but musically and melodically they tried (and failed) to be like bands around at the time that kids liked. Such as Blink 182. They tried for that sound but failed. If they had kept true to themselves MUSICALLY then they would have produced an album that far exceeded Crush. But now I can't listen to it.

You took "boy/girl" way too literally. I didn't mean lyrics like "you lost more than that in my backseat, baby." JBJ said about I'll Be There For You, that there has to be a little hurt for a ballad to be really good. I think they can do that again without delving anywhere near "creepy."

I think this is a great question.....

They are more than capable. Even if writing it is a problem, then can buy it and rewrite the lyrics. I think Jon could get his voice up there in a studio, even if it took him 5 months to get through it.

I don't think the maturing thing is the issue. They could still write a ballad that could fit with them lyrically. Aerosmith (S.T.) did it at age 50 with "I Don't Want to Miss A Thing"...

The problem is, Jon dosn't want to do it live. He's done with those songs live. If it gets released as a single and he has to go out and promote it, he's ****ed.

That was one of the intents of TLFR. I think he thought he could get away with those simple versions and fool everyone.

In Jon's eyes, the formula has been working for the past 10 years. Write a simple album, watch it go to #1, sell a few million WW, and make a ton off the tour.

Haha glad you like the question.

I agree 100% with the trust issue jon has with his voice, he trusted himself to be able to sing wild in the streets on the last tour and look how that ended up.

I also think what do you got would have been a much better single 8-10 years ago as it may have had a key change or better build up than what it has now.

After Thank You For Loving Me and All About Lovin' You I gave up on Bon Jovi writing a decent ballad again. Truly atrocious creations.

Absolutly agree 100%!!!!!! That was the key (no pun intended) to Jons success and he lost it.

I quite like "What Do You Got". Don't know why, and of course it could be better, and I would't miss it if it wasn't there, and compared to "Make A Memory" it comes along quite cheesy, but I really like to listen to it - and I can't deny the lyrics bear some truth.
I don't count it as a real ballad though, it's somewhat in between genres.
