Kirk Hammet is definetly one of the most overrated players ever. To speak it out HE SUCKS. All good Metallica riffs(not that there are too many) were written by Hetfield and if you ask any Metallica fan(beside maybe that guy on this forum who anyway has no clue) he will tell you that he wants Hetfield to play lead-guitar.

I don't know. I'm not one of those guys that claims to know anything about what it takes to be a guitar player. I don't play and have no clue as how to do so. All I can judge by is live performances. Every time I've seen Metallica, I've always been very impressed with his playing.

Don't get me wrong - I think Dave Mustaine is great too, but I've only seen him a couple times and I don't think he plays lead guitar for Megadeth.

I agree with earlier comments about Kirk Hammett, I'm not a huge fan of Metallica but his guitar sound is just awful. Mustaine is a far better player. I also think the guitarist from Tool is incredible, I can't believe I've forgotten his name and I can't be arsed going to find one of their albums to tell you but he sounds incredible. Particularly when you see them live you can't believe they only have one guitar player, the sound is so huge. Chris Degarmo has a great sound aswell.

Who played the solo in Metal Militia? The song contains awesome lead guitar work in my opinion. I didn't really pay too much attention to post 1980s Metallica releases.

Oh, also on guitar work: In my opinion, the guitar work (fills, little thingies) Richie did on both Stranger and New Jersey is some of the best ever, but as far as flashy solos go, my favourite hair metal guitar player would have to be Kee Marcello. Listen to the Superstitous solo!

He does on some songs. If you watch the live DVD, he split the lead work with Al Pitrelli.
