Satriani is a genius, BUT I have to say I do get slighty bored of listening to his music after a while as in my huble opinion its a bit samey, I think you have to appreciate how to play a guitar to REALLY appreciate how good he is...(so thats me out )
I dont think you can compare Sambora to Satriani, as they play on different levels where Satriani is technical, Smabora is soulfull and given that Sambora can/could sing, its sort of comparing chalk and cheese, if that makes ANY sense whatsoever....
As to comparing Sambora to Slash, I have to say Slash is probably better, and thats coming from a huge Sambora fan.....thats not to put Sambora down, its just that Slash is very good.....BUT I do think Sambora comes into his own with his bluesy style and as has been mentioned before, if you speak to guitarists they do respect Sambora for his talents, rather than just being that guitarist from BON JOVI.....so that alone is credit to him....I have to say and I hope I am wrong Richie may have had his day unless he gets out of this much mentioned "Comfort Zone" and kicks ass once more like he did during early days right upto These Days, especially the big live gigs like Wembeley Stadium when he was totally on his own planet for KTF and Dry County.......Thats my humble opinion for what its worth,

Slash has kept himself relevant and has a very strong image, I'm not too fond of his playing though, he seems to make mistakes all the time. Joe Perry never interested me.

Richie seemed to duck of out being an outlandish guitarist since The Crush tour, I think he wants to be seen as more of a songwriter than anything. He's nowhere near the force he used to be.

Ive always thought Perry was average. Dont have many great solos.

Slash I loved in the GNR era but his solos albums are shite.

Sambora was wicked but after These Days have been very disapointing.

Aloha !

Joe Perry has been getting sloppier the last few tours where as Brad Whitford seems to be getting better. He was always the better guitarist of the two of them though, it's just that Perry got the showmanship and has written most of the riffs. I've never considered Joe Perry an amazing guitarist though his timing is insane, although mostly based upon feeling I guess.

Slash is still getting better, what he only used to be capable of in the studio in the early nineties he's now able to pull off live, his performance of Anastasia on this tour proves this. He's not the best guitarist out there, but then again, who is? He's still playing the same bluesy licks like 20 years ago, but does them better nowadays and has started to focus on writing riffs as well again.

Richie's pretty much been invisible the last 10 years, the last time he did a lot of improvs was on the Bounce Tour but those days are long gone. He hasn't written a single memorable solo in 10 years and it doesn't look like it's going to change anytime soon. He's gotten too lazy and there's no one around him telling him he can do better. The sad thing is though that as soon as he feels he's got to proof something he overdoes every technique and starts showing off more than he's actually making music.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

In 2007, Brian May was backstage at a Satriani gig in London. You could see him on the side of the stage with a youngish looking woman. His arms were crossed and he was very focussed at Satriani's playing. The woman asked at some point: "How does he do that?" and Brian May said: "I have no ****in' clue!" I was at the show with Tom (letitrock) and Mike(McRock) and Tom read the lips of the two
That much about Satriani. He can be awe-inspiring.

As about the other 3 - I think Sambora is the most talented of the three. He could and should have been a lot more. We all know Sambora though, ****in' lazy bastard!

Slash is the most overrated of the three and basically lives off Appetite for Destruction. I think his decline started with Use Your Illusions already and he has become increasingly dull over the years. He also managed to bore me to death when I saw him live.

Joe Perry has written some fantastic riffs and is a blast to watch live. Aersomith have never been about the solos anyway...It's all about those licks and they're all right.

All three mightily overrated anyway.

It amazes me that some people actually think Slash is a better or more technical player than richie. Slash has never been nor will he ever be on the same level as richie. There is also a lot more to guitar playing than the likes of Satriani and Vai.

Joe Perry and Slash play circles around Richie.

But he's fine, you don't need to be a virtuoso to play Bon Jovi music.

[QUOTE=SexxAtraxxion;1088751]Joe Perry and Slash play circles around Richie.

I'd really like to think that this is a joke.

He's technically better than both of them but he's less influential then them.
Slash & Joe Perry also wrote better riffs.
