Underrated, yes. Technical, no.

Mike Mangini is technical. Vinnie Colaiuta is technical. Neil Peart is technical. Terry Bozio is technical.

Tico is just an ok rock drummer. He's good at what he does, but there are hundreds and hundreds of better drummers out there.

But those guys music requires them to be technical. No one really sees exactly what tico (or dave, hugh or even richie these days) is capable of whilst playing in bon jovi.

on the solo records kenny arnoff drummed on the drumming is solid and fairly straight forward, any half decent drummer could do it but arnoff is a monster player though these recordings would make you think he was fairly average and limited rock drummer.

We've heard Mr.Sambo, and the instructional video Tico did in the early 90s (?). I think that's about the top of his ability, since that's all we have to go on. Anyone can say what they want, but there is no proof that he's any better than what he's doing now.

How do you know he's a monster player? I know cause I've heard him play on other records and I've seen his drum clinic live. Why doesn't Tico do clinics? Or if he's as good of a player, how come he's not doing any more studio work?

Tico is great at what he does, but he's not a technical drummer, nor is he even among the best rock drummers in the world.

Though I agree that there's not much to go on to presume otherwise, I find your reasoning rather lowbrow.

Maybe he enjoys swinging a brush much more than doing nothing but drums.

Mayne he doesn't want to do clinics and session work?

You see him on the dvd, the 1st thing he wants to do when he's offtsage is hit the golf course... drumming is his job, do you want to do something that extends you're job during your free time?

Well, Tico ain't no Roger Taylor, and he ain't no Max Weinberg.

But one thing Tico has that no other drummer has is a damn awesome image. No drummer looks as cool as him

Well, F1 isn't the sort of thing every one of us could do. Drumming is. All the excellent drummers give lessons or have given them in the past. Tico made on "instructional" video, which has no real substance.

That's not even an argument. It's not a question of what he enjoys, but a question of what he can do. If no one asks him to do studio work, shouldn't that tell you something?

Why do you guys insist onhim being the greates drummer ever? Only one's I've ever heard say he's good are Bon Jovi fans. Like I said, he does what he does well, but he's by no means a great drummer. He lays a solid groove and nowadays keeps a decent time (which he didn't do in the 80s and 90s), but he's not a great drummer. It's like saying Alec is a great bass player and comparing him to Billy Sheehan.

Sorry, I love Max but he's no better than Tico. Max is as solid as they come but his playing style is pretty restricted.

No one should listen to a thing ICEMAN says.

He's the most ignorant self serving person to post on this message board. He hasn't even got a clue about drumming but feels it's his duty to spout ill educated views on Tico's playing.
