Of course smoking is bad we all know that, but Jon is a big boy and if he wants to, well, that's his choice.
I wonder though how much of his voice has to do with smoking and with him misusing it in the 80's. Lots of singers smoke, I know that Freddie was a chain smoker and his voice was fine, but Freddie knew how to utilise his voice from the beginning. Jon's "problem" (not that I personally think his voice has gotten worse) might be from this.

It was me because Dave said he wouldn't smoke in an interview from 2001 but doesn't he smoke on the TLFR-DVD during the bonus-stuff? Maybe I looked wrong but I think I saw it. Richie smokes from time to time, for example during the VIVA special in 2000 that was recorded in this recording studio. There you can see him lighting a cigarette and also in the video for bed of roses where the band stands at the bar. But he doesn't smoke as much as Jon or Tico.

Me too. I don't really give a **** if Jon smokes, I don't know him and he's old enough to make his own choices. But I do think that his voice has gone downhill since he started.

No, he didn't.

From all gathered accounts in interviews over the years. I've always understood Jon has having smoked occasionally since his teens, But didn't actually become a smoker until he started doing films...to ease boredom between takes.
