Hugh??? HUGH????? ok...for me Hugh is in the same league as Bobby, Jeff, Lorenza and all other tele-tubbies on stage there. No offense but there was only one bass player in Bon Jovi and his name was Alec John Such!

Yep Hugh! For me he's just as much a bandmember as Alec (yeah sorry) nowadays. I mean he's been there since These Days (and before), so I'm passed that stage with Alec.
I give him extra credit for sticking along so long without getting any credit.

Yeah! Even though Alec only played on stage and Hugh has played on all the studio albums and live work since 1994, Alec is the reall bass played. Because it's just so cool to admire Alec for all the work he didn't and bash the one who did all his work but didn't get the credits for it! Yeah!

Hugh played on Runaway and occasionally on some tracks of SWW, NJ and KTF. He said himself he was on all albums BUT 7800. However, it is just an assumption that he did "all the work".It's actually rather stupid to think that he was the main studio bass player. How do you know Alec didn't do most of the work? Because of a SINGLE ONE ambiguous statement of Hugh? I take Jon's statement that Alec will be the one inducted in to the Hall of Fame as an additional proof that he wasn't there just for the sake of it.

Besides, the bass lines on the first two albums are by far the best ones (excepting maybe KTF-the song and 2 or 3 songs on These Days) and those are records where even Hugh admitted he didn't play.

If he wouldn't have done all the work on New Jersey, he would've said so, right? What's the point in saying "I'm on all the albums" while he only did the bassline for (for example) Homebound Train? He's just taking credit for what he's done. If he's really that much onto being important, he wouldn't accept the fact that he's considered a full time band member.

Also, when talking about which of the bass lines he came up with and loves the most, he's mentioning Livin' On A Prayer and Keep The Faith most of the time. So it's safe to assume it's Hugh on Slippery too, even though that doesn't match the idea you have of Alec.

No, he said he did play on all the albums except for 7800 Fahrenheit. So yes, he played on the other songs of the first one too.

assumption. You can't know what he meant. Personally, I am convinced he hasn't played on more than 2-3 songs on any album before These Days. from his statements you can't contradict me.

Can you maybe show me the interview or the quote or whatever? As far as I know Richie came up with the bass line on Prayer. But I'd be happy to be proven wrong. Also, this doesn't mean that Alec didn't play or came up with Wanted, Raise Your Hand, Never Say Goodbye or Bad Name (which has a kille bass line by the way)


If you look at the dates where the song were recorded you would see Runaway is months apart from the other songs. Also, from a recording perspective, most of the songs were recorded almost at the same time as the ones on 7800. He said he played on BJ because he played on Runaway (the only song)...similarly he could've said the same about SWW after playing Prayer only!

But he didn't, so why would he say this about a lesser known album but not about the biggest album? It makes no sense.

ok, so what exactly in that text is conspicuous enough to say Huey did em all (all songs on all albums but 7800?). What I understand is that Huey helped out because the bass line on Prayer sucked. how does that tell you he played on all songs on SWW? that actually implies that Alec wrote it in the first place but they didn't like it.


He says the same about both albums. He says he played on them. Could be one song or more songs. However, Hugh never claimed that he was the ONE who wrote everything, who played everything or whatever. He just said he played on those records. I personally think he was a back-up musician. Simple as that. If Bobby Bandiera said he played on HAND, he'd be right. Would that discredit Richie?
