The record company wanted NJ Deluxe to be between 4-8 CD/DVDs and had massive plans for it. Jon wanted nothing to do with it and hence supplied the bare minimum - those demos that we hardcore fans basically had already.

The very worst part is that he wouldn't pay for the video of the Hammersmith 90 show to be remastered for DVD so it wasn't included - that was the record company plan, along with other demos/alternate versions, unreleased live recordings and behind the scenes footage from the tour and the recording session. Jon did not want to know, and refused to do any promotion for it.

So I think we can mainly lay the blame for the lack of sales at Jon's feet. And because it flopped so badly, the other plans were dropped. One of which was a comprehensive live collection a la the Tom Petty four CD live set.

Jon can be such a prick with his anti-nostalgia obsession. Losing out on quality stuff for the fans because he thinks it diminishes his relevancy. Despite the fact it would make no difference whatsoever. He should be proud of the back catalogue.

Exactly, he should be proud of what they achieved and it can be celebtrated with out making them a nostalga act. U2 did it for the Joshua Tree.

@Nige: Any official source for that?

I paid 8€ for the 2 disc NJ re-release and tbh didn't find the package (including the liner notes) to be lacking. Obviously, a super duper deluxe re-release would have been something else.

That's a lot of information there... Do you have a source for that?

I also doubt about this, but Metallica for example, is doing a great job with its deluxe editions of its classics Albums, filling a lot of CDs with demos, alternative tracks, live shows...... and the deluxe edition of Appetite For Destruction It's ****ing amazing.
