To me the most poetic JBJ lyric is Miracle.
Indeed Miracle is really poetic. I think the song is great.

I think what Becky said about Something to believe in makes so much sense. My mom loves the song and I kept on wondering why but like Becky I understand it now.

I think my personal favourite looking at lyrics will be living in sin, so much a story of the hard parts of live.
Both songs are great
Something to believe in : one of the greatest BJ lyrics ever and amazing vocal performance. It should have been a single..
The live version (Yokohama 96 IE) shows everything people should know about jon's voice.
Livin in sin : I love the chours for its energy and melody...I don't like the words so much...a bit too cheesy to me.

I used to write the verse with "A man walks and a bird can fly..." all over my folders and stuff in high school. That, Santa Fe, Dying Ain't Much of Living and Bang a Drum all move me. Really, the whole Blaze CD does. I realize I start listing a few songs and can keep going and going.

Hey....wait a minute... I wrote that line on my school bag when I was 16 .... what is this? Bon Jovi telepathy??

"Good things comes to those who wait" is another great line as the whole blaze cd.....but even this one has its black sheep...I hate "billy get your guns".

I was 15 or 16 at the time too!

This is interesting. A reference to Jon's lyrics in a completely unexpected place just popped up when I was doing a news search:

Agree....I like everything about it...particularly the live arrangement as done on the NJ tour...EXCEPT for the lyrics. Way too juvenile..even for them at that point with them all being in their late 20s or early 30s. Granted..there are families who are that tightassed and religious where the song could hit home...but not enough for it to be a song that many can relate to unless you're in Jr High or High School where throngs of teens would listen to it and relate because they see their 10 PM curfew as their parents keeping them from the love of their life.

Well, Santa Fe is another work of art....I'd like to have a new Jon's solo record...I think we could understand way better where he is as a man, artist and musician at this point of his life.

In this category of the gratest lyrics I'd place the whole of the These Days album

But I agree most of the lyrics of the band have something to say and they manage to say it beautifully. Bar King of the Mountain :P

Me too. I love his solo albums because he writes the majority of the songs alone.

BP... I think that Living in Sin hit home with more people than you might think. Anyone who grew up in a religious home probably had "no sex before marriage" drilled into them. You know, growing up Catholic, Jon did. So when you hear that all the time and yet see your parents fighting it out, you start to wonder what's so great about marriage and it might frighten you that marriage kills the love.

To me, the thing about Jon's lyrics is that many times he is good at simply stating powerful emotions. Such as I'll be there for you and I will love you. It is an art to state the heart of the matter simplistically. Yet, other songs that he has leave the listener to make his/her own interpretations (Blaze of Glory, Wanted Dead or Alive, Bed of Roses....) Bon jovi's good at connecting people on a spiritual and personal level through lyrics. And then he of course has the songs which you can just rock out too and those create a nice balance and mix.

One of Bon Jovi's songs that wasn't one of my favorites at first was Saturday Night (I think it's called that). Until I heard it when I was bummed out and driving in my car. "hey man I'm alive I"m taking each day a night at a time feeling like a sunday but someday I'll be Sat. night... and Hey now I'm gonna live my life like I ain't got nothing but this roll of the dice..." Now, it's a good feel good song for me. Same with Bounce. So many songs dwell on negativity - Bon Jovi definitely writes about sadness and pain, but there are so many lyrics that emphasize freedom and getting through hard times.
