I have always admired Jon and Richie for their writing abilities. Sometimes I stop and think how can someone come up with some of the lyrics that they do and am awestruck all over again when a lyric hits me like it should. I respect each one individually as well and really enjoy seeing their own individuality on the songs they have written for their solo projects.
I think a great song writer is one who can write a song that can have so many different meanings to many different people. It gives you something to think about. If you get the point right off the bat, the fun is gone, lol.
I have always been a person who looks to the music first and then the lyrics because if the music cannot touch me and make me want more than it's really difficult for me to continue listening. Doesnt mean I don't appreciate good lyrics just that I would probably be less inclined to try and figure out the meaning of the song. If it makes my ears bleed it's hard to focus, lol.
