This song was a standout for me when I bought the HAND album... and HAND was my first ever Jovi album (other than Cross Road). I was more of a casual fan then rather than a die hard but this song was my favourite song on the album at the time. It still ranks in my top 40 Bon Jovi songs. Great lyrics and I love the talk box.

I found a picture. Our so-called "family tree". I broke all the branches, looking for answers, don't you know that aint how it's suppose to be.

Great lyrics!

And agreed... this song is one of the least talked about songs on JT.

It's an okay song, nothing to rave about, though

A decent song in my opinion.

Does anyone know if Jon has ever commented the lyrics in an interview? I mean, lyrically, itīs a bit left-field in the BJ catalogue. Normally the lyrics revolve around the "Godfather"-theme and the importance of family values (for example, Live Before You Die or Walk Like A Man).

I like it, the talkbox and guitar sounds great and its a decent catchy tune. It should have been pushed to the forefront more, unfortunately ended up in the shadow of the 3 songs surrounding it on the album which all went on to be singles. IWTBL holds up well enough against those 3.

First time I listened to the album and got to song no. 2 - which, as wel all know, is IWBL - it was an electrical feeling! It had this "wow" effect I rarely get upon first listen, and still hasn't lost its magic.

It has this dark groove that I would love to hear more from the band, and the lyrics of the verses add nicely. I love the "family tree" verse, simple but brilliant. The lyrics of the chorus are again back to the same old clichees, but still it's a pretty good song and together with (I confess) "Complicated" and "Novocaine" my favourite off the record.

Love the song so much! Easily one of the best post 2000 songs the band has releases. It has that certain "primal" feeling to it, probably because it's very simple and basic but that's what makes it stand out for me.
