No, it's a step up from the turds in DA!

I think it prolonged the bands life and opened them up to a new set of fans as well as the older ones who appreciated the song.

Scares me more to think what would have happened if LOAP was left off SWW!!

Australian fans will not have to pay hundreds of dollars to see them?

That's a matter of opinion.
Lyrically DA is far superior to It's My Life.
It's My Life also hasn't stood the test of time. It now sounds dated and you never hear it on radio anymore.

If Guns N' Roses had the classic lineup, they would be playing stadiums too.

Bon Jovi, just like the other acts I named, made their legacy long time ago, and that's why they are big (not because It's My Life).

Yeah, I pretty much agree with you there.

Bon Jovi's make or break point was The Keep The Faith album. They shook the cheesy 80's tag while nearly all their peers of that time fell by the wayside.

If that had failed they would have went down the route Def Leppard took. Who have been classed as 80's has beens ever since the early 90's. They still get by as a nostalgia act but commercial or huge touring success went ages ago.

Those who are saying It's My Life didn't give the band a second lease on life are kidding themselves. Maybe it's not so much the case in Europe, but in the US that song revitalized their commercial appeal and got them back into selling out stadiums... which wasn't the case with TD.

These Days failed in the US bcause it was a "dark" record.

No way, some of those U2 songs, especially Vertigo and Beautiful Day, are absolutely huge. I don't know sales figures or anything but I'd be willing to bet at least Beautiful Day beyond tops It's My Life. I don't hear IML on the radio/TV anymore. Beautiful Day is inescapable (unfortunately).
