Slash is a great rock guitarist and my favourite, and Clapton is ....I guess awesome is the word to be chosen. Bon Jovi is a real cool band and it only works
with richie, otherwise it would be a different band with another sound. Bon Jovi is Jon, Richie, Tico and (sorry I don't know the names of the other band members, but they are great as well) I can't imagine the band without Richie on guitar. It fits to Jon's voice and he has a unique sound....

Some people are just made to be playing together, in this case, It's Jon and Richie. Some people aren't made to play together (like Slash and Axl Rose), but it could sound real damn good, too.

It's not just how they play together either. If the band members don't get along outside the studio and on the stage, then it won't work. Some people who seem like the nicest guys in the world, can be real selfish assholes to work with. That's why sometimes bands go through many people before they find the right guy. (look at Van Halen, for example, David Lee Roth was with them for five albums and then all of a sudden they parted ways and found Sammy).
