As far as Richie goes, and as much as I love Richie, I don't think they should retire the band because of him. Most bands continue after founding members leave, Jon could have Phil or someone else take that slot and just keep going with no problems.
Truth be told, 80%-90% of the people that come to the shows are there for the songs and to see Jon. Most people refer to Bon Jovi as a solo artist and not as a band anyways, at least that's what I've encountered over the years.
I repeat again:
Bon Jovi has always been a band. His special touch is the tandem Jon Bon Jovi-Richie Sambora, his best songs are the union of the two, their live magic flowing between the two. They are a special couple, as Paul McCartney-John Lennon or Mick Jagger-Keith Richards. I do not care what think the casual fan. The reality is this, the union of the two is what makes special Bon Jovi.

Without Richie Sambora, they should break up. Forever.

I think its too far gone down the corporation route now and the band has lost its "BAND" image. its about money and logistics and having the BIGGEST tour etc etc. time to walk away for a few years, then have a reunion where money isnt the boss, where its about playing the music, and crafting an album, not just churning out 10-15 usually mediocre songs every 18 months or so. I have to say there are some genuinley super songs on WAN, but we need to ROCKSTAR back and not the CEO!!!!

i reckon they should call it quits. i'm having a hard time picturing that scenario and thinking of the remaining members as Bon Jovi, the band.

however, would we be questioning the stability and continuity of the band if this same situation was happening with David or Tico, though?

Call it quits for me. I'd probably support a Sambora-less Bon Jovi in that I'd buy the albums and go to the gigs but I think they'd be best drawing a line under it. They've probably been treading water for a good few years now so without Richie, I just think they should call it a day and do their own thing.

Yes but probably not to the same extent. I'd still struggle if one of them left though.

I'd rather if they would call it quits if Richie left but in reality Jon wouldn't stop. He'd put out another album/tour to test the waters.

Even if Richie came out tomorrow and said, "I am done, I quit Bon Jovi" I would still no believe it would be for good.

We have been told for 30 years that these guys are genuine friends. If they are then they do not have years of pent up hatred, they just have a problem in the here and now. While it happens that firm friends part and do not reconcile, it is more common that things happen, and eventually wounds heal.

So if Sambora leaves, I am pretty certain that at some point, whether it be in two years or 10 years that they would come back together, record together, tour together, and whatever else it is they get up to. In fact the more I think about that the more I warm to the idea of him quitting. If it can help them get some serious time away from Bon Jovi and take stock of what they want then it could be for the better personally for me, because the latest album is rubbish.

when would they "come back" further down the line?

Richie is 54-in five years he'll be pushing 60-tico's already there...i think this could be their last activity before a farewell tour.

they're finished as a creative force. jon and richie should go solo- and i was hardly blown away by aftermath. it's lame.

They can either disband or continue with a better, rocking guitarist who can write rocking, classic melodic BJ songs and tell Jon to piss off if he's bringing weak sauce songs.
