I think that even if Jon decides, what we hear recently is very much Shank's understanding of proper sound, which afterwards was accepted/adopted by Jon.

I think absolutely he can be influenced but with the state of his voice I just don't see him finding a new producer who will have to manipulate it to the point of excess. Plus with Shanks playing 90 percent of the guitar tracks, you're not just finding a new producer you're finding a new studio guitar player.
To me the ideal choice is a new producer and Phil playing full time, but I just think the band will sound like Jon wants or else he just doesn't put it out. He's too far into his career for someone to come in and start calling all the shots.
