I would also like to see Jon write alone or with some new blood like Phil X. Also, if John Shanks is going to fill the position of musician, they need to bring in a fresh producer. Maybe they should do that anyway.

I also like the idea of having a vocal coach involved. Maybe a psychiatrist is even more necessary than a coach. I think when Jon freely admits that Richie's leaving literally left him unable to sing, he needs counseling to get over the "divorce" and get his confidence back. The voice is probably there, buried under the baggage.
This is so well said! Plus, him and Rich seriously need to talk in person and mend their friendship so it at least doesn't leave either of them hurting. I don't care if Richie will come back to the band or not anymore. It's been four freaking years and the guys ain't getting any younger.

And yet this album was the most well received on this board for many years. You do realise people can make constructive criticism? Everything is fans or haters these days.

**** Jon Shanks off the production for a start - and out the band if need be. He seems to have too much influence.
Get someone in who is gonna tell JBJ a song or sound is shit so it needs to be done another way.
Write with Dave and Phil X - Lets have a guitar driven album.

But most of all in my honest opinion Richie needs to come back.

Its not the same and thats no slant on Phil X. I love his enthusiasm and sound but I dont think it will ever be used to the max with Jovi. Basically he is wasted unless JBJ says I want a heavy guitar driven album.

So get Richie back as BJ need him and seeing what he is producing at the moment (Covers and average songs) he needs BJ.

Not gonna happen though is it.

The only thing I really want for a new album is Shanks out, they need someone else to product one album and new songwriters

Reinvention. I've just dug an old thread here on the forum entitled "Reasons why BJ should split up" or sth like this among the lines. It's hilarious but man, so much truth in it as well!

Jon has been writing with new people with each passing album it feels like. It doesn't mean what he writes with them will get released just like it doesn't mean them going with a new producer will make them sound like they used to. People need to accept this is how Jon wants the band to sound. Working with Rick Parshar didn't make them sound any less than the rest of HAND did, working with Dan Huff didn't change the direction, Howard Benson producing What do ya got? lead to a forgettable single.

Jon dictates the sound, Jon dictates the direction. 30+ years in the game no one is going to come along to change that.

But so you don't believe that people can influence Jon?

I think that even if Jon decides, what we hear recently is very much Shank's understanding of proper sound, which afterwards was accepted/adopted by Jon.

It's always a mix of the two, but I definitely feel like Jon has the final say. The fact that different producers for separate songs over the last 10 years all lead to pretty much the same Shanks-esque Bon Jovi sound, says a lot. If a new producer was willing to change the status quo, I believe he would be sacked very fast by Jon.
