Official tabs aren't always the right ones. Official chord books are most of the time wrong about a lot of things too.

Sorry, you're wrong. Just watch any live video, Richie's playing it on the lower strings. As for Esus4add9, that's a C# short of F#m7, so it's pretty close.

As Supersonic said, most official tab books are wrong, they simplify things and join keyboards and guitars into one guitar arrangement.
