Interesting new Jon interview

Exactly. I'm not knocking him here, I love the guy to death, but look at the songs he's done on his own for soundtracks since 2001. Take me on is as poppy as all hell. I'm going to keep using this explanation till I'm blue in the face, you can CLEARLY hear him say on a bjtv "....might make the melody more poppier" when working on Everyday. It's a team effort, they both know what they want and this is the sound they're going for.

The whole "Everything bad that the band ever does is entirely Jon's fault" and "Everything good HAS to be from Richie and etc." is SO DAMN OLD, and so fruitless. And that comes from someone who thinks Jon is an arrogant ass most of the time.

I'm curious, how do you figure Jon is insecure? Is it from this interview or just in general?

Just in general. He's a man who always needs to point out his accomplishments, and have 'forced' moments of leadership, like that cringe-worthy huddle-break in the trailer for the MSG dvd. That said, there's nothing wrong per se with the fact he's like that; it's part of his temperament; Jon's a guy who likes to run his own kingdom, and gets defensive about it.

Listen, I think the band would be laughable without Richie, but I'm not saying Jon is shit. God knows he's a better songwriter than Richie could ever hope to be, and he's gotten by moreso with his own determination and creativity than any technical musical skill (other than vocals obviously); and I actually really respect that. I respect a guy who lets his guitarist choose the guitars for him, doesn't bog down in knowing every facet of his field, but instead plays his internal strengths.

The downside of that is Jon clearly isn't as passionate about music as he once was, and that's hurt the band IMO. Though I agree, Richie, irregardless of his off-stage difficulties, hasn't cared as much either. I almost wonder if Jon's change in focus has affected Richie as well; he seems like a pretty malleable guy.

Anyways, all this aside, Jon is the devil. /thread

I feel like I should just put this out there: Richie is my favorite member of Bon Jovi. I love his solo work, am a major fan of his skills, a fan of the man personally, etc. That being said, Richie talks up the band's accomplishments as Jon does.

I would say Jon does and continues to do so in a far more "look-at-me" sort of way, but I have nothing concrete to back that up either.

This all brings up an interesting point about Richie's work this decade though; as much as Lost Highway gets slagged here (and not without reason), Richie did come to play on it; some of his solos on the latter half of the album are the only good parts about the back side (remember Till We Ain't Strangers? ugh).

This would not continually be argued if the same people wouldn't continually make baseless assumptions that Bon Jovi could continue without Richie or Jon doesn't need Richie to write songs (insinuating Jon wrote all the big hits by himself by himself because he didn't) or completely de-value Richie as a member of Bon Jovi.

If you are tired of hearing about it, tough shit because I'm sure it will come up again and again on this board and I will continue to defend the theory and have just as much right to as the people who are continually defending Jon.
